A little maintenance pruning.

Got my Chelsea rain boots from Amazon. At $30 a pair, they are great for my muddy backyard. I was mucking in the backyard and LadyRider called me out to do our daily evening walk. I walked two miles in those boots and they felt great.

Two new heavy duty monkey poles. Now there are 5 in this area. The dwarf bamboo is low now so it wasn't too much work. Bamboo will be about 30 inches in a month.

Watched Mama Bluebird take care of her family.

I made a bird feeder out of a tomato cage. Has sticks, feeders, and a roof to keep out the rain.


All birds love it.

I get dried mealworms and those really attract bluebirds.




One year we had swallows but lately there are no bugs to eat.
So this year the bluebirds have adopted the swallow box.

This morning she has been making the rounds.... Worms, box, and back again. About 5-6 times a minute!

Pretty cool to watch the process.

We DO get birds!

We had a hard frost last night. I brought the tropicals into the house and put a few sensitive plants I could move into the shed. The only damage I could find this morning was on my Washington Hawthorne. Poor thing has had a rough spring already with an aphid attack that deformed some new growth before I spotted them.


The doctor approved me to go back to work tomorrow. What a bummer!

The tree turned crispy so I destroyed it. Only my 2nd tree to die (out of 30 something now)… Devastating. I still want a Cryptomeria BD with dense foliage pads.

Today I installed my shade cloth. Everything must be under some degree of shade. In my climate, april to nevember, a 50% shade cloth is a must.
No scorched leaves and I can half the times I have to water....
