Built a Not-so-lazy-susan bonsai bench from reclaimed materials so I could better see the progress of these Siberian (?) Elms that I am hoping to make a forest of one day.

Reclaimed materials: swivel chair base, cabinet door and used hardware. The box was originally a wall shelf from our old kitchen cabinets. The Elms are all volunteers from my yard.

Slow day at work...
Amur honeysuckle with distinctive reddish leaf color marked last year and European buckthorn.

They are both doing well.
Cut down and got rid of extra branches on the honeysuckle. It is solid in the pot and still shows reddish color on tje leaves getting the most sun.

Maxsea for most of the trees.

While moving trees to cut the grass my beautiful partner ran over one of my hornbeam starters with the large Juniper chinensis when she was dragging it onto the patio. Good thing I found it before the lawnmower did.

I threw it in the garden next to my juniper.

I also started the ramp on the shed. Cut and stained the stringers and header. Hoping to finish tomorrow.

Just checking out how the apple cuttings that I took during Easter are doing. All but two produced leaves and I am happy to see some roots poking out of the basket in four of them. The thicker hardwood ones developed way better than the thinner younger ones.

I wonder if it's because the thicker ones have more stored resources?

Went for a quick look in a forest where I had chopped trees when making a Shelter with a buddy of mine about 5 years ago!

Thought I might stumble upon a regrown stub I left there unconscious I was maybe trunk chopping for bonsai lol

Here is what I found!

Don’t know what will become of the second « tree » growing from the same root base at the extreme right of the picture though hmmm…

I have this ash tree in my yard that can handle a bunch of abuse and comes back for more! Its been trunk chopped twice and dug up and roots pruined twice too I think (last spring for sure). Just pruned back all the new branches for backbudding purposes, except for the new leader today. I don’t have a good photo but the roots do flare at the bottom thankfully and doesnt have inverse taper the way it looks in the photo. It was a sapling little yardadori I started in spring 2020.IMG_1996.jpegIMG_2020.jpegIMG_2021.jpeg
