Back to my volunteer docent gig at my club's bonsai pavilion at https://www.novaparks.com/parks/meadowlark-botanical-gardens.
120 visitors today, so I talked almost nonstop from 10 AM to 5 PM.
I did manage to work on a bald cypress and a juniper.

I wired up Athena, the crepe myrtle. I pruned some of the longer branches for symmetry. Too many branches, but I can always prune them later. Not bad growth for a bit less than 3 months.

I just pulled this crepe myrtle out of the dead tree area, I guess I'll call it Phoenix! It died last winter and grew a shoot, so I tried to make lemonade and wrapped the new shoot around the dead trunk for some shape and it died again, if it really grows this year maybe I'll protect it better this winter...lol. 20250517_181559.jpg20250517_181609.jpg

You have a nice, chunky base there.

Today we worked on the trees at Lynden with Suthin Sukosolvisit. Being one of the top 6 volunteers with the most hours last year I got a 3 hour session with him to work on one of my trees as well.

It's turtle season again.
Helped this box turtle cross the road.

So many of them here Ive counted as many as 8 in the road on the way to work. Luckily the area is pretty low traffic.

Once again, flooding here in Kentucky...this year has been insane. Oh and tornadoes rolled through the state killing at least 20 people. Took out the medivac hangers, and a lot of homes. Saw these photos of the tornados path on WKYT.

Misted these recently collected Elms and bagged them back up.
I imagine by now, the current leaves would have shrivelled up, because I didnt get hardly any feeder roots.
Plus bad timing.

im using the sweating method. I sort advice from Sean the apprentice with these, the chap who works with Harry Harrington. I have followed the steps, saturated the soil initially, then you just mist periodically, without watering again. Soil should be moist, not wet.
They're in deep shade still. The wet moss on surface helps to raise humidity.
I mist in evenings when there's no sun. Fingers crossed!
