Bending Pines

Jesus freakin Christ already !!!
Why does everything here at B-NUT have to become some
freakin pissing contest...

I just posted the shit because this is what I am doing, and
I personally have found it too work. That's all...
If you don't want to believe that it works, then fine I could
give a rats ass, don't do it then...
End of story.

I get tired of freaking having to argue all the time, over
nothing...

I am sorry...you know I am on many similar situations and you even helped me on most.

Please note that I am not arguing, just trying to understand how/why it works since I learn fastest that way. As I said, thank you for sharing and the bending part is really awesome. :)

If your results are demonstrable, there's nothing "silly" about showing how much faster it thickens when girdled. Had you started with a side-by-side comparison, you may have had a better response to your technique...assuming your motive for posting was to show the technique worked.

I really don't know what to say. I'm not looking for a reason to pile on even though we have had our moments, I believe I have moved beyond them. But you still seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder that keeps inviting someone to know it off. I think your method of bending Pines has merit, I have been doing similar things for a number of years. I would as soon look on you making positive contributions as some alternative. And a lot of people think that you are a reincarnation of the every popular Stacey who disappeared off the radar right after the Karaoke bar went down.

If my motive was to show this, than perhaps I might of put it in
the title of the thread ??? Seem logical ?

I don't know to what extent wrapping the trunk will cause thickening or the nature of the thickening but I have seen how it works and the results are more of making the trunk aged looking rather than the traditional thick and tapered. What ever reason you or I may choose to do such a thing I think I can successfully say something will happen, it all depends on what pleases you to do so.

Will let you in on a little secret ...
ever since I joined BNUT, even back in my past life... :)
I have had to hear in one form of another how I couldn't do
this, or couldn't do that, on pretty much every post I have posted...

Usually by folks that I assume meant very well, but had no further
knowledge about the subject at hand then they themselves had heard
you couldn't do it from someone else, who had heard you couldn't do it
from another person... and so on.

My question to you then is, when does five or ten people saying it make
it true ??? Especially when none of them have ever tried it and have no
actual experience to say whether or not it has or has not worked ???
Hummmm..........

So call my attitude a chip if you want... I would prefer to call it, I'm not
just going to listen to "Rumors".... and would prefer instead to find out the
actual truth.

Let me say that I didn't just come here to BS folks, or put out bad or
misleading info... Quite the contrary, Like I said, I have found the technique
I have used here to work, don't believe that it works, fine... Think I somehow
should have demonstrated it better fine...

Regardless, I am through arguing, and through posting.

Well, I’m going to have to try it now. I’ve got a Virginia Pine in the yard that I wired and bent, and didn’t remove the wire before it created serious inverse taper. How far apart should I space the rings? I’m thinking the spacing should be about the same as the diameter of the trunk, maybe closer towards the base.

sawgrass, I don't know if you saw it, but in post 12, I made a genuine inquiry about this tree.

the technique of scarring to add thickness definitely does work and does not perceivably slow down the growth. If anything there is a side benefit to the fact that i'm certain it promotes back budding. I have done with and without wire and my wired ones got lower growth every time. This is not a new technique. It has been used in Japan for many years for good reason. The problem with the technique is that if used incorrectly you can have horrible defects. The one unanswered question I have is whether a spiraled wire or individual bands work better. Not every one in Japan uses this technique but there are some that use it with outstanding results.

Guess we wont get to see how this one turns out.

Awesome.....

Sawgrass the other reason why it's used more commonly on younger pines is that its easier to grow out of the scars when they are younger
