Anyone know what this might be on a Peve Minaret Dwarf Bald Cypress in my yard? No bugs seen on the foliage. It's affecting one entire branch at a time which I've been removing. The rest of the tree looks great.

Thanks

Honestly I can't tell you. However if your branch is valuable I would not cut it off until you know it's a lost cause. I would suggest contacting either your State Forestry or a good University Forestry department first.

If it's only 1 side it could be a problem in the ground/roots?

No. It's both sides. Only 2 branches have been affected thus far. It starts with browning on the needle tips then curling of this new growth. I did some looking online and it might be a fungus. I'm going to hit it with Bayer 3 and 1 (I think it contains a fungicide if I'm remembering correctly) and see.

Does anyone remember the username of the owner of bonsai south? Since the site upgraded my past PM's to him were lost. He's the bald cypress expert here for sure.

Thanks for your responses. That type of tree and JM's are my favorites. Hopefully I can knock this stuff out.

In my experience browning at the tips is almost always water/root related....not saying its not a fungus, just what my experience is...
This does not look like root aphid or rust aphids damage....both very common in BC.

Have the branched sprouted any new foliage? if so, how does it look...if its ok it may have just been a watering issue.

I think the branches that are now affected had normal spring foliage come out initially then the tips of the needles on the branch from the outside to the inside of the branch started curling and turning brown..but only one branch at a time up to 3 now. We have had alot of rain recently (though they grow in water obviously) so it has not dried out. It's in my front yard (not a bonsai just for clarification for anyone that may have missed that)

My guess would be some sort of fungus, given the wet weather and dropping branches.

I went ahead and sprayed it with Bayer 3-in-1 which has Tebuconazole as an anti fungal so fingers crossed.....
