My son drags random things out to the yard, and that whack-a-mole mallet has been laying out in the yard all summer.
No trees were harmed making that photo...

F BVF.....who was it you were Whackamoling? Potty?

You REALLY DO HAVE THE BOP STICK!
HOLY SHIT!

Oops it was time travel.

Or, time travel could pop up in those holes, and BVF can whack him with a root hook, and we can play a proper game of whackamole!

But Potty been known to get it too...

Potty said..Beat me to it. Seen this as well I have.

BVF said...You are fairly active on this site. So that we can get to know your work, would you mind posting a couple of your trees

Whack a tree I didn't, round pots I use, post photos I can't, when just type I can.

Oops I did it again...

Time travel must be stuck in an ignored wormhole. Mole hole?
If you're new here, don't ask about soil, fertilizer or say Dario 3x in a single post.
Sorce channeled. Back to regularly scheduled broadcasting.

Oh no! Now BVF is Yodaized, too! Who's next? Vance? Or Smoke? If Mach gets it, there's no hope left.

Oh, I'm still banninated. No auctions for me. Even if you did snipe me, at least I'd know the item had a good home.

Besides, I just bought one of Julian's zuishos. I'm broke!
Forgot. Well, let me know when you're back and you can shill up a few things for me:p

Let's see that Zuisho! The grafted one I bought from Brent hit the 10-year mark last year, and that's when they're supposed to take off. The trunk is now about 2". Maybe in a couple years I'll make a decision and start pruning/selecting primary branches.

It's an airlayer that Julian took in 1998. It's been always kept in a pot. At least one major branch was approach grafted, I haven't had time to do a close inspection.

Julian swears by his micro-nutrients for these things. So I got some. He's as adamant about them as Smoke is for Humates.

Really...displaying your trees in a flower bed??...c'mon Adair you need to pony up for a display area! Nice trees need more respect than that!!

Will be interested to see how this tree takes the transition from straight turface to Boon mix??

I have one of Julian's Zuisho airlayers as well...not as old as yours...no bark yet

That zuisho looks like a beauty! I was going to say, be careful, that thing is probably planted in turface :) Be curious to see how the root system looks.

Lol. That's where I plopped it when I got home.

Actually, I'm moving everything to the wintering spot, which is behind the shrubs you see, and next to the foundation.

It needs some guy wires....
It will probably get some. After I've wired it out the regular way. It appears that Julian has wired it in the past. There's evidence of old wire scars. That have mostly healed over. When that happens, it makes the branches a little thicker and stiffer.

Yeah, Julian is the go to guy for zuisho, just as Jim Gremel is for Atlas Cedar.

Oh, JohnG... We just got finished with a major deck project, and I have some left over lumber, so I plan to use it to make a respectable display area. My wife has laid claim to all the best locations around the house for her organic gardens. She is extremely sensitive to most of the pesticides that normal grocery store produce has, so she has to grow her own.

Yep, turface it is. He told me he uses 80 percent turface, 20 percent peat. I used to use turface, back in the day.

I don't know if I will repot it next spring or not. It was last fine in April 2013, so is a little early yet.

One of the reasons I bought it was because it's an airlayer. So, it should have radial roots.

Hope so. I've seen this one before and the base looks like it's collapsing under its own weight, creating a very unstable look from this planting depth. It would be cool to uncover a nice radial spread under the surface. Hope you have lots of wire!
