Itoigowa

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Just to get a idea of size, oiled the pot a little to the trunk and some lime sulphur
I'm very happy with the tree, now it just needs to grow out
Also built a shelf for both my trees, going to paint it black in a mo
Then il add a couple of u nails two for each tree, I can use these points to tie the wire to which I'm going to use to anchor the pots to the shelf
Don't want the blowing off!

Thank you for sharing those. They are a lot larger at the base then I had thought ;) They both appear to be healthy and now you can water, fertilize, and enjoy for awhile :)

Nice display setup. You could just do as the Japanese do and run a string over the pot and tie them down.

I suspect the Itoigawa will go juvenile on you. They do so at the slightest hint of stress! You guys removed a good bit of foliage and wired, so it's very likely to go juvi. It will eventually revert back to mature foliage. It will take a couple years.

Enjoy!

Just another two pennies... Consider using Indigo(black stain) on that shelf. That and a coat of weather proofing will last a long time between treatments and never peel on you ;)

Looks nice, and I like the display and looks like it did go scale on ya.

Have you been pinching or clipping with scissors?

I'm glad it has been safe, a tree like that could've grown legs and walked right out the door so to speak. However have you been pinching or clipping like Brian and Adair have been teaching. I just researching the subject not meaning to put you on the spot or anything like that.

I have had no real need, the tree needed to gain vigour and I figured id leave it be after the work it had last summer.
I always used to pinch when i kept junipers years ago, but i believe thats a no no nowadays

That's what they say but I still pinch. The following Shimpaku is an example. If you want to have a private discussion on this PM me.

Vance, do you have a picture of this Shimpaku Juniper before you exposed the Bonsai in it ?
And is the Deadwood original or was it added by you ?
And what is the Height and Width of the tree ?
Also I like the Nebari on this setting but it might be a little much.
Could you consider a Pot with another inch of height so as to cover some of the Nebari ?
And if you do that I could take the Pot off your hands if you like...
