Another Dunkeld larch.

It suffered pretty badly from under-watering last year, so I cut off the dead top.

I remembered what our late friend Arihato would do: keep the lowest possible branch for a small-sized tree.

The new leader is now strong enough to be wired at the end of the winter, and repotted in a more shallow pot.

How long is it in this pot ?
I ask only because i bought one last year wich was potbound and the roots are horrible :p

... ...I remembered what our late friend Arihato would do... ...and be good enough to credit my late friend for showing me the right path.
God rest his soul!
His larches were/are very beautiful and well-worked!
He was always eager to provide guidance and suggestions!

Healing well. Thought of repotting with a good lean on that bottom trunk?

I bought it as a 2-3- year seedling in 2012, it was about the size of the new leader, and it has always been potted. I repotted it maybe two or 3 years ago.

I'm planning to repot it at the end of the winter, in a plastic cup (lower but larger than this pot).

Ah good!
If you got circling roots you can try to wire the roots to steer them in the right direction thats what i will try with mine with next repot

Nice work Alain, why is that first branch so long?
Its thick enough already isnt it?
You must have a reason probably tough

As I said :

At first, it was to make sure the first branch would be thicker than the second one. But I also like trees with a long main branch, a bit like some Chinese penjings...
Yeah lol i wasnt realy serious but i forgot the emoji's ;)

I get what you say ive seen some Nice slanting tree's were the first branch was longer then usual but made it look ballanced because of that!
