The judge Jennifer Price with Lord Mugo himself
She couldn't believe that tree and every other mugo in the show came from nursery stock.
When I told her that the look on her face was priceless.
She was great!
The best judge we've had so far in my limited opinion.

Selfie time with the dragon himself
The depth of the new pot is much better suited for the tree than the old one. The corners and sharp angles are a distraction, though. I would prefer something “softer”. But, overall, it’s an improvement, as it lessens the mound, and allows the eye to focus on the tree.

I was VERY impressed by the trees you had on display. I was going to say so in person, but a bunch of folks already had you cornered when I was there. I particularly liked the juniper right by the entrance. Fantastic work!!
Thank you but credit for the bones of that tree go to one Rodney King who has "moved" to Arizona (kinda) and our before and after image in front of the tree shows how we got it and then all the rest of the work myself and my son did. That is why it was in non-judged because we have had it for a little less than two years. Next year it might be entered for judging (if it survives another of these crazy winters we've had recently 😄
You can see some of the progress images in my other thread "Please help pick a good front for my Shimp!"
Thanks for the compliment. I would've loved to meet you! Are you a club member? Paul does not ring a bell. Maybe at the next meeting or show... @Paul G

Saving this picture for inspiration. Any rule that prevents this tree from winning "best in show" every year? Hehehe.
Vance's Hinoki Cyprus won best in show this year (a beautiful, serene presentation, hope someone has a pic). There is a rule that if you win something then next year you can enter it in the show but in the non-judged category. Last year the Dragon was in the show but in non-judged.

And it gives the old girls roots room to stretch a bit.

I knew the dragon would take a ribbon.
Jennifer has never seen Vances trees before so it was a shoo in.
And what was up with the tamarack in the roller skate?

I thought it was kind of cute myself. Thought it would take people's choice for sure (usually one of Judy's penjings always takes people's choice). Can't believe my corkbark elm got people's choice. Don't know if I should be thrilled or offended 😆😜

I was thinking about joining. How many people usually show up for the meetings?

Depends on the meeting. Michael Corbeille, the club president would be a better source. I've seen like 40 people at the auction meeting and even some of the demos....

It depends on the event. I remember years ago when we had as many as 125 members, many would show up.

Be thrilled.
That's a very beautiful tree.
You could spend hours just looking at the nebari.

@Leo in N E Illinois came to the show Sunday.
I just want to say what a wonderful person he is.
He came and sat with us for most of the day.
He brought both of us,Vance and I,5 pounds of blueberries each!
He grew them himself.
And to top that he gave me a Sorce pot!
Beautiful bronze,coppery glazed rectangle.
Now I got to go dig up some beech or horn beam for it.
What a terrible problem to have.
Also Leonard B. brought some beautiful wood products.
Display slabs and stands made completely out of burls of various species.
A lot with the live edge.
He does some fine work with some beautiful wood if anyone wants something cool and exotic to display trees on or even to just display on the wall and look at.
They're that good.

Shows are good fun! JudyB and I met up in Kannapolis and discovered a Mexican restaurant! Good times!

I second that @Leo in N E Illinois is a great guy. A year ago this past April, we met up at the show in Collinsville IL. He hung out with me and showed me around the vendor area. I got a really nice pot, and a couple of trees. Plus, he's my go-to guy for advice, knowing the weather here well. I always wanted to ask you @Adair M were you at that show? I swear I saw you there. I was the one staring at you, lol.

Hmmm, It was early, so no drinking was involved. I swear it was you...........but it was a small show, so maybe just the evil twin.

Leo, he be good. Great time, I am just now recovering from the ordeal. Getting too old for this stuff, people like Mike, Leo, and Leonard make it easier and better.

I missed being able to make this show this year :( But I needed this trip that I'm currently on. Hell I should have walked over to your place Mike and rode back & forth to Mio with ya lol. Glad you guys had a good time. Good to see a pic of the Dragon, I enjoy seeing that tree every year, I know Mike would give his right arm to own that tree :)
I'm not sure if Mark went or not this year since I wasn't there, haven't talked to him in a few days but he's coming up to fish with me for e afew days starting Sunday morning.
