I was very sad to see that there is one measly deciduous tree in the Mirai sale. Not neccesarily that I'm looking to buy a tree, but it just reinforces the lack of deciduous champions in the industry.
No, there is a zelkova, must have missed the live oak... OK so there is 2. whoopee. That live oak? I looked at it as soon as it came up...and after about 20 seconds just logged off..lol.
That’s because they take a lot longer to create!I was very sad to see that there is one measly deciduous tree in the Mirai sale. Not neccesarily that I'm looking to buy a tree, but it just reinforces the lack of deciduous champions in the industry.
Bill Valavanis has been doing bonsai for 50 years. He has nice deciduous trees.
so you are both fortunate and Unfortunate...I'm fortunate enough to only live an hour from Bill. I'm at his place a few times throughout the year admiring AND looking to buy some of his deciduous trees. Especially some of his shohin deciduous trees. Unfortunately I must have a good eye and I'm always picking out some of his best deciduous trees in his collection that so far he just can't bear to part with. I always leave there a little disappointed
Yeah, I get that, but it's still disappointing. That’s because they take a lot longer to create!

Owen Reich and Andrew Robeson both want to specialize in deciduous trees.Yeah, I get that, but it's still disappointing.
Owen does indeed. We will see about Andrew, Bjorn was supposed to be all about it, but doesn't seem as oriented that way as I had expected.Owen Reich and Andrew Robeson both want to specialize in deciduous trees.
If they all make triangle deciduous trees, who wants a collection full of those?Owen does indeed. We will see about Andrew, Bjorn was supposed to be all about it, but doesn't seem as oriented that way as I had expected.
I was just having this discussion with Scott Lee. There is more of a demand for conifers than deciduous trees. I realize the time it takes...think yamadori has influenced the decline as well? That’s because they take a lot longer to create!

Who said they do that?If they all make triangle deciduous trees, who wants a collection full of those?
Andrew is studying under Hagedorn who doesn't seem to be held back from breaking out of the mold, and Owen certainly has a wide range of talents that go beyond strictly traditional. I think there is a place for triangle trees too though. I find many different things attractive. If they all make triangle deciduous trees, who wants a collection full of those?
Yeah I mean a lot of the thing is just getting material out there to move the D aesthetic forward is how I see it.Who said they do that?
I'd take a few triangle deciduous....then attempt to grow a more natural canopy.
