Update,
I fertilized two days back and they're already starting to get much greener. Thanks fellows for the help! I feel I am wearing the dunce cap now after that bone-headed move.
For those curious, I turned the pots up to see how the roots are doing (nice advantage of a grow pot) and...
I will post another photo tomorrow, but I did not see any of that sort of yellowing.
The yellow is limited to the new growth only, all of the older growth remains dark green.
I'll take a closer look at the soil, but did not see anything that looks like root aphids.
When I repot I will use lava-rocks only, in the interim I will back off on the watering and increase the fertilizing....and use some iron pellets.
Thanks for the help!
I tend to agree, being that they received the same amount of sun last year and had no issues. Also, the other JBP in another pot sitting to the left of these is dark green.
I haven't been that aggressive with fertilizer this year, using a heavy sprinkling of dr. earth every month, IIRC last year I was doing more than that.
It's slightly bizarre to me that they're otherwise happy, with needles are pointing up and no wilting or strange coloring at their bases.
Howdy,
Been a good while, but I'm still keeping after my bonsai trees. I have three Black pines that are pre-bonsai. Two of them have not yet darkened the needles from their early growth light green to a mature darker green this year.
I'm afraid that this is an early sign of the tree showing...
Thanks Eric(s).
I have pretty much every major branch that I want, in the places I want them, so I'm working on filling them out and letting the trunk and nebari develop. So I will certainly be mindful of where the next sacrifice lands on this tree, as the next one might be tricky to place...
Thanks! That is a great article on it! Mine are no where near that size, so that gives a good idea that maybe I need to spend much more time letting it go.
