$35 Japanese Maple project

It's not as vigorous this time around but it grew fairly well this year. The tree has been brutalized two years consecutively so I'm not surprised. Also, we've been in the mid 90's F daily for the last 30 days and none of my maples have done much since June. I'm hoping for a second growth push in late August or September when we cool off a bit.

Me too, it has been a brutal summer so far, 95 - 100. The maples have not done anything since the Spring except for a random sprout here or there.

Yeah, it was 100 F here yesterday with LOW humidity...not a good combo for maples or other broadleaf trees. Everything was bone dry this AM when I watered. Praying for thunderstorms...

I have to say that with regards to temperatures, we have been lucky thus far. It has been a relatively cool summer with temps even in the 50s at nighttime. I hope it cools down for you guys soon and I hope it stays as such with us. :)

50's at night...time to turn the heat on!!!

holly crap! that's a lot of new roots all around the trunk! Perfect
Saving this thread for when I need to do it!

I remember this thread well from last year. How you got the maple so flat at the bottom left an impression on me. The results you got look great.

Pretty good recovery, nice flare.....now what you gonna do with this hot mess?

Good question. Up until last night, I was preparing myself to chop this one down very low and start a sumo style (I was actually picturing of some of your tridents while considering this). Now looking at how the base is shaping up, I'm thinking a taller tree is in order. Anyway, that old chop site will either get cleaned up or redone entirely depending where I decide to go with it.
