So I bought this little $5 procumbens while I was at the store for something else totally non-bonsai related sometime in December. What can I say? I think one has to have at least some obsessive tendencies to do this hobby. Thanks

P.S I know the wiring job sucks. Need to get better at that

needs more bend in the trunk, I would remove the excess branching unless you are planning on using it for shari, maybe tilt the pot a bit to emphasize the cascade, but I like it. $5 well spent :D

That made me chuckle a little, but I totally agree. lol
I would agree with georgia on more bend, but looks like a great buy for $5

Yes it definitely has its flaws. I agree it needs some more movement. The long stubs will be jinned and some shari work will be done. For now it needs to recoup as I took a LOT of foliage off. More than I should have but I would like to see how far I can push some material to learn their limits.

Looks like it could have been better had you left some foliage at the top also.

Yes, its been very hard to not grab one of my trees in the garage and start doing something to it, but it is still too early up here.

Let us know if this little one makes it.

Very strong lateral branching on this one. The one I left was prob the best one to use. There really wasn't anything on top that I could have used and most were too large to bend. But bonsai is like everything else I presume, practice makes perfect.

Now practice grafting. ;) :p

Regarding bending, these are some of the easiest to bend...they are very flexible (comparably). Oh, I am talking about wiring thought. ;)

This is very nice. Good pad formatting. Putting bends in the trunk can be important. Pulling the foliage closer to the trunk should be the main goal. If you can somehow pull that end part with all the foliage closer to the trunk it would make a big difference. Also a small shari. Something like this.

I believe it is going to thrive this year. Went home and studied it, and much like the other three procumbens I have that I push real hard during a chop it has back buds all over the trunk. I do like the style it is in now but im guessing that at the end of the growing season it will have pushed growth all over the place, leaving me to ponder at a restyle sometime in the future. I was planning to bend the trunk like you have it so that it isn't "Reaching" as much at the end/beginning of next season. We shall see..

Much growth all over this spring. Created some shari and jin and adjusted the trunk a bit. This guy back budded all over the trunk.
