a different perspective....

My vision is not a group of trees located close together at all...perhaps a distant view along a river bank...but for me I envision this as trees spread across a vast shallow lake flat.

In my mind this is an image of trees that are a vast distance from one another...but all similar in size if you could see each from the same distance.. In regards to Smoke's comment about using a younger image for the shorter trees, I think that would be a good call if this were a near view planting...but that is not the intent.

I like the oval planted sideways for forcing perspective. I also immediately saw that I was looking down a river past those trees in the foreground to several off in the distance. Four trees doesn't bother me, but the pair on the left is a point of contention. I'm not sure if my eye wants more separation or some variety in size. My favorite tree in the composition is the small tree on the right. I also think that's where the success of this composition hinges. Not that you need kudos from me, but well done!

I'd love to see a from-a-lower-angle picture, but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer this angle as the display angle.

I'm going collecting this weekend hopefully, but sadly I doubt I'll run across many BC while I'm out.

I appreciate the clarification John. I thought that was your intent.

I think that is an achievable goal and one I have thought about myself on more than one occasion.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can convincingly achieve it in a traditionally shaped pot like the one you have the trees in now.

are up for the task?

I have a couple of ideas I've been toying with. I'll drop you an e-mail.

Cheers,
Paul
