A Maple for Ray and Eric

I think that final height will be a factor of whether it can work as a sort of second apex for that trunk. As this is to be the secondary not the primary trunk, I'll have to be mindful of scale on that one. I'm keeping the option open for now. I'll be hoping for legendary growth on the right two trunks this summer with no repotting to do on this.

Well here is this tree a number of years and many changes down the road. After much deliberation, over the last few years, I've been slowly taking two of the trunks off, by cutting thru them halfway each growing season. This was in an effort to heal the resulting scar faster. With the most interesting trunk and a very good base, and pretty decent taper, this is the beginning of a very different design. The three trunks never really had great symmetry together, so will try to make a better tree out of the remains. Today I cut the last of the remaining trunk off, and reduced and wired. It is certainly a wild looking thing, but I kinda like it.

No guts no glory ! Good decisive move !

I think...you found it's true glory there @JudyB ...well done! Good to see one you've had awhile...and where it's been.
Well we will see how the base heals and if the difference between the trunk and the base can blend together better. Right now, looks like a fat stick stuck into the base. I may have to start a sacrifice branch low on the trunk to help it out.

I guess you see more in person. From the angle shown. I don't see it being a huge issue. But I'm not standing in front of it.
