The way I anchored smaller branches and such, and the spacing between loops is a little too wide. It's so funny how when you learn to do something "right" it's amazing how all your past stuff looks wrong... I highly suggest Colin Lewis' video on craftsy.com for those learning to wire - anchoring opposite branches always had me a little befuddled, but the way he explains it in the video made me say "duh, that's so obvious, why didn't I see that before?"

tree's doing good - came through winter like a champ OUTSIDE the coldframe. I'm going to let it grow strong until summer, then it's getting a haircut and some wire. I'm thinking that by next year it's going to be ready for a repot and some carving... in the meantime I'm scheming a lift assembly to hold this sucker while I wrangle it out and back into the box it's in. Updated pic to follow shortly.
And grandma - she's doing good too. Took a header off the dining room step the other week and didn't break a thing! (thankfully!) She is sad however that she's getting up in years and now has to use two hands to carry a cinder block - just let that sink in for a minute...

Looks like you already did round 1 of wiring. My experience with privet is that they grow like weeds, bud back all over and are generally easy to move along. Mine fills up the pot with roots every year. Once I got the crown established it slowed down enough and this year it finally bloomed on short branches (normally the blooms were always on long extensions...)

Yeah, round one done, only 100 more to go for a plant my size I think.
It's real interesting you mentioned the blooms... mine didn't bloom the year it was collected, but has bloomed each spring since, well... for the past two years, only had the plant for three. Maybe it's specie related, know what yours is? I think mine is either obtusifolium or sinense but not 100% sure...

Mine seems to be a sinense, it was formerly a hedge in a housing development in San Jose, CA.

Still alive and kickin' although it's currently leafless and under a couple inches of snow. Didn't do much but some light wiring to secondary branches and let it grow the rest of this past year. Going to be repotting it come spring, and I'm definitely going to have to do some carving/wood preserving this year - mushrooms starting to appear in the crevices of dead wood, need to nip that in the bud pronto! I did have a little more die-back than I thought initially - the bark just took its sweet time falling off. Luckily it won't hurt the design I planned out already. Might actually look better in the long run. Haven't been taking a whole lot of pics this year since I stepped back and just let everything grow and regain strength, but there will be tons once work begins in a few months.
