Here is another Deshojo from cutting.. maybe 7 Y.O

acer palmatum deshojo 2021 09 29 (1).JPG

As usual, i repotted it this spring in a flat wood box ->

After a weak spring growth, the summer growth is good, so the tree is stronger now than past year.

I removed 2 branches (too big). i added cut past after removal ->

The 2 possible trunk lines for the future. I dunno yet which trunk line i will choose ->

The tree after trimming ->

As you can see on this pic, the nebari lack of roots (there is an empty space on the right) ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2022 03 24 (4).JPG

So i plan to thread graft the nebari next spring, with this Deshojo cutting ->

Thank you.
Today, i'm trying to air layer this young Deshojo, in order to get another graft (in case i need to perform another thread graf). The budding of this tree is delayed because it was kept outside the greenhouse.

I used stakes to stabilize the small layer pot ->

If you’re going to air layer something that thin/small, why not just take cuttings in may/june?

I tried previously to make palmatum cuttings, but all died.. so i prefer to air layer young branches.

The graft i used on this tree is from air layering too ( in spring last year). It worked well so i do it again ^^
Last year ->

The graft i used to thread graft root is on the left, the young tree i used today to air layer a branch is on the right ->

Some news : the thread graft of the cutting didn't survive :/

The tree at the end of August ->

acer palmatum deshojo 2023 08 30 (2).JPG

The scar of the thread graft is already closed ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2023 08 30 (6).JPG

On the trunk, there is a fork ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2023 08 30 (4).JPG

So i cut one of the two trunks ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2023 08 30 (5).JPG

A virtual of the future trunk line (maybe) ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2023 08 30 (7virt).jpg

The auto thread graft i will perform next spring + layering to TRY to get new roots ->

Some news of this tree :

I repotted it in spring 2024 ->

After all, the nebari is quite good so i will not carry on trying to root graft it...

The tree in march 2025 ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2025 03  21.JPG

Yesterday, i cut the crown to let the light enter the tree

->
acer palmatum deshojo 2025 05  21 (2).JPG

I reworked the scar (concave) to try to have a flat scar and not an unsightly bump ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2025 05  21 (3).JPG

The cut parts ->
acer palmatum deshojo 2025 05  21 (4).JPG

I hope that i will have new buds on the trunk and a "summer growth"... 🤞

Did you try any cuttings from the cut part on the ground? Just wondering if would love a few rooted deshjo cuttings.

No i didn't because i already have a few deshojo pre-Bonsai trees, and the room available in my little greenhouse is very limited. I prefer to try other cultivar (for example arakawa and seigen recently)
