I imagine they are one of the quicker species....I am doing seedling cuttings tomorrow in the aero cloner.
Was curious myself of this.

Having left it open to the air for a day or so, you've killed all the xylem initials (cambium on the wood), so you won't have any bridging problems.
I've read and watched many videos regardin air layers but I don't remember coming across this information. Do you usually do this, or is it just in theory?

What kind of gel?
Rooting gel like clonex.........I forgo thr drying process and instead scrape with a blade the cambium then apply clonex gel.Is very important to kill or scrape away cambium or it will bridge.
Or I dab on dip&grow or the like.

That's how I do it too. I tried to airlayer a trunk with a deadwood part this year. I scraped it good after removing the bark, trying not to leave anything near the deadwood, but it didn't push any roots, probably because I started it too late. I'm quite confident I did a good job removing the cambium, but if it doesn't push roots till next summer I think I will let it open for a day after removing the bark, as a second attempt. Thanks for the tip
