Good morning everyone!

My name is Brant, I am 27, and I am new to the bonsai world and community. I've had several bonsai before and unfortunately I always killed them. Not intentionally of course but more so out of inexperience and I also think due to the fact I kept outside plants inside. So! I am not one to give up so I purchased a pre-potted bonsai yesterday from a local nursery. It is a Eugenia Myrtifolia 'Globulus' and according to the store a good choice for a indoor bonsai. I'm rather excited about it as it is already looking to be a nice shapped tree.

A bit about me. I'm from Winter Garden, FL. Moved here less than a year ago. I am a orchid grower and have had great success with getting them to thrive and rebloom. Also, I picked the name Cardinal because it is my totem animal (if you believe in that sort of thing) and I very much am looking forward to learning as much as I can and making new bonsai friends!

***I do hope there is a place for a gay bonsai newbie in this group. I always get nervous about that. Lots of bad personal experience growing up.***

My mother swore up and down she would come back to this world as a cardinal.....never figured out she would be a male bird.o_O
Unless she was planning on being a rather drab colored female.....
I will say I see more of them around even during the colder months.....climate change?:p:p
Always brings me good fortune though, mom.....not so much.....guess she finally is!!:D
Welcome, bro....;)

Hi there and welcome,

May I ask why you seem totally set on the fact that your trees have to be grown inside?
Living in Fl I think that neither my trees nor I would never be inside :)

I spend most of my time inside working so I enjoy having plants around me in my office. I do have some plants outside though! All of my plumerias. :)!

Make sense.
If your bonsai keep dying a change of mind set might have to be consider though ;)

Here is a picture of my new guy. Not the best given how bright his location is but enough to get a idea.

You made me take an online test haha, I'm a deer! Orchids take a green thumb, I'm sure you'll be fine once you learn the basics! Welcome!

Btw as an orchids specialist: are they some species of orchids that will survive outside in Illinois?

(like bad-asses, Northerner orchids from Game of Throne or something?)
