Any good cedrus bonsai

plant it in the landscape.

Please don't! I'd cut off everything on the in between, make that righteous formal upright grace, and let that lowest branch go for the other!

Both Wicked!

is it an awful idea to cut the top of mid to late spring?? (aka now)

No Deodara, but Brevifolia, Blue Atlas and Golden Atlas

Hi fourteener. I'm glad to see that that Blue atlas is still alive and looks like it's pushing new growth! Is it still doing well?

Was it you I sent it to? Or did you get it from someone else?

Here's a two picture progression from 2006 to 2008 for this Green Prince Cedar of Lebanon I picked up at a roadside nursery. I forgot what happened to it:

Not sure if I gave it away, killed it. sold it not good recollection of its fate

Here is a brevifolia that my dad and I have. Needs to be planted at a better (more upright) angle, and the branches will then have to be moved according. Came into our yard a couple years ago. Been growing great in St. Louis

If it were in a big slab slanted at the angle of the shadows.......I think it would look way better than upright!

It's perfect to me now, just needs a proper home!

Stumped me, but it's better than mid to late fall (aka now)

He's a South Souther!

Skip throwing the middle away on that one, it could make a good raft!
3 Dope trees styled different!

So I figured that I would feel better about chopping another cedar before I did anything with my nice deodar aurea.

I had some birthday cash so I purchased this blue atlas cedar.

The trunk has a bit of a bend in it.

But on the way home from that nursery, I passed another that was heeling in their trees for the winter. Picked up this nice Cedrus Atlantica for $40!
Nice deep green needles, though it doesn't show that way in the photo. Its about 10'-12' tall.

Nice autumn deal!

It's doing very well, I can't find a pic on my phone, maybe when I get home later. I did add Epsom salt to my fertilizer program this year and the blue color was exceptional. I think there is an updated photo on my blog.

That's great to hear! I was very pleased with having initially turned such unlikely material into something with so much potential, and sounds like you were the right person to carry it forward. It'd would be great to see the photo if you can find it. Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to post pics of their cedrus
A cutting from evergreengardenworks.com after 4 seasons.

Gentlemen, do you happen to have an answer to my previous question....
... ...I am about to make some bends on a straight Cedrus deodara very similar to the photo above.
Which is the best time to do this kind of work?... ...
Thank you!

Almost any time is okay. But, between the spring equinox and about 6 weeks before the fall equinox the bark will easily separate from the wood. Were you in a colder climate you might want to avoid the dead of winter.
Atlas cedar is easy to bend though also can abruptly snap. Deodar is similar. I've had better luck bending big stems part way, letting it sit for a day or two, and then bending further. Gentle bends, like on my tree, are 'no problem'.

It is a bit large and in the way right now... any more comments if I can chop the top off? I am not chopping to produce another section I want to prune the top off so that where I chop it, will be the final hight of the tree. Help, please :D

Of course you can do it now. In your climate, you could chop it most any time. Chopping in early spring or in summer, after the new foliage has hardened, will do the most to produce some back budding; other times, not so much. At these times, there will likely be just a little resin bleed.

thanks oso!
I freak out with all this time frames of cutting in late autumn, repotting during planet alignment......
