Arizona Cypress

Has anyone done bonsai work on the Arizona Cypress. Thinking of getting one to try in west TX

I'd never heard of this species before, so I did a search for it. Only turned up this one example, but it's a pretty neat one.

I don't have any direct experience with them, but they always look like good candidates for bonsai. Try one and tell us about it.

Definitely agree! the more variety of species of bonsai we have, especially with respect to native habitats, the better off ALL of us are.

Thanks for responding. Hadn't seen but a very few pictures and most were nursery type photos.

Appreciate the input. After this summer have been concentrating on more sw native material and heat mitigation tactics

Bump. I’m a noob (been meditating on it and practicing here and there for 3 years). But I picked up these Carolina Sapphire in my local nursery in middle Georgia. Not sure if it will stay stable — I cut back and root pruned all at once and slapped it in a Yixing pot.

Hoping to see some fibrous growth. Will develop a little before field planting to thicken the base.

These things are thirsty (almost unquenchable in bonsai soil). Did all the work in late winter. Hoping to see growth by Summer next year (‘25)!
