Tidal Bonsai
Omono
I said I wasn't getting another deciduous tree this year, but then I saw this tree from Steve V. at the 2025 NJBS Art of Bonsai show. It was the very last hour of the show when I was chatting with a few bonsai friends. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted this on a vendor table. I have no idea how I missed it all weekend, but it was love at first sight!
My tentative plan is to:
1. Wait until leaf drop to address the 1.5 inch wounds on the sides of the tree that need healing.
2. Repot into a wooden box for some good vigorous growth to help with wound healing and primary/secondary branch development.
3. Take a look at the roots in the spring, and use techniques as needed to work the nebari (e.g. root grafts, cutback, wooden boards, etc.)
