i put some of my soil base 1part turface 1 part pine fines in bucket (no drainage) forgot to put back in soil "basket"(airpot). well its been about a week, with a few rains, as i returned it to basket noticed "the stink", that wet stagnant soil funk. (i suppose root rot will smell similar)

dry soil mix (lay out in driveway) and use?

mix in dry turface?

let it stabilize/ breakdown until spring?

throw it out?

i'm pretty much done with summer repots (ficus). need a litle for some ficus cuttings, and i like to keep soil around for slip potting, and/or great nursery find.

2 days later barely discernible funk.

please advise

Put it in a black bag and let it get no sun or air. Put a couple vent holes with a nail after a few days. Turn bag about once a week for a month and then it should be a fine humas when you get done.

Never throw it away!

1 part turface 1 part pine? Not much there to cause issues. Personally I'd dry it out and put it back in storage. Down here I could leave the bucket open for a few days out of the rain and it'd dry out nicely :). Dump off the extra water to help it along....
