The first image is a recently aquired Japanese Black Pine, 37 inches tall. Changes may be in the works.

Number three is best. Maybe even without the lower branch.
Paul

#3, without doubt. I would however jin a portion of the trunk above to give the image some credibility.

#3 definitely, leaving a jin to tell the story. Ben Oki said, standing on a pile of branches on the ground around my tree..."There, much simpler now." It's still one of my favorite trees.

Mike each one has merit with just a bit of changes made to the tree.
My concern is the unstable look it gives in each picture.
None of the pics show/tell the story of the tree.

What I see in the story is a tree which grew in a windy place that had shelter for some time... but that shelter erroded or broke away... and the full force of the wind is pushing it to one side because it blows so much that way.

Just a thought...

BBG :)

Mike,
Your title is Bunjin or ?. Then you ask which version we like by poll. Are we deciding on a particular style or are we deciding if its a bunjin or something else?

Just curious

LOL BBG.... The curve at the base is a plus but crossed roots and unstable root mass brings the focal point to there...

Mike here is a thought of what I see....Please excuse my poor virt.

Irene, the trunk is 1 inch thick at that point, and I think the tree is too old to bend like that.
If it was a juniper, I could hollow it, fill the hollow with heavy wire, wrap it tightly with raffia, and then start the bend. So, I don't see that as an option with this pine.

Mike

Mike they can be bent and twisted.....:D

Irene, you're a sweetheart, but that is just butt ugly..................:(

keep it green,

I basically voted for image 1 to keep the bunjin character..everyting is already there

Thank You Harry.

Don't want to hurt you feelings, but do like I do and have a Pro do the styling, and take care of the the more important part and keep them healthy.

keep it green,
Harry
