Bonsai Nutters I need help deciding which American hornbeam trees to collect this spring. You can vote for one or you can vote for all of them.which one would you collect? I’m interested in what everybody thinks.

1 for me. 2 and 3 have that root which just isn't my jam. 4 is too straight. I like the low branch on 1. I am a sucker for low growth.

If you found those then you are in a grove of them, search for the ones with movement down low. I use a reciprocating saw to get them out, the wood is tough. I’m gearing up for warmer weather to hunt hornbeam, good luck.

These are all in a 6 foot radius lol. There is more around and I have another location that’s got a ton but I haven’t really searched it over yet.

I hope you find something, I love hornbeam and collecting them. It’s peaceful being by yourself in the woods, but tiring trying to get the big ones out. Do you have hornbeam or is this your first?

Well I recommend a saw and loppers, along with shovel. The first time I collected it was instant addiction, my backyard is slowly looking like a nursery.

Yeah my plan is to sell eventually, I want to start a bonsai nursery one day. Right now I’m just building inventory.
