Colander opacity, does it matter?

As the title says, does the opacity of a colander’s plastic matter considering it’s ~50% open anyway?

In my experience with airlayers using transparent plastic bottles, roots don't care about the light at all

Maybe direct sun could be a handicap and burn the tender tips, but IMHO the problems are more hot temperature and dry air, than the light.

Lab grown plants all have transparent containers. If it would've hurt, the entire scientific world would use something less transparent.

It is probably more important that the plastic is UV resistant than opaque. Many plastics get brittle and degrade in sunlight. I use pond baskets because they were designed to be outdoors and last more or less indefinitely. I have some that I've owned at least ten years.
