Here is the result of an emergency repot this morning. It will need a bit of growing out in the canopy. With some luck. Height, pot and all 3 3/4 inches.

Sorry for the emergency. But without seeing the before, I really like the possibilities of where this will go. Keep us informed. (enjoy the cool temps - at least for now. low 80s here)

Nice work, it looks like a real back breaker to move;) If you hadn't mentioned the height I would have asked for a reference object for scale.

what was the emergency?

Root issue -- I think. It was one of these if-I-don't-do-something-NOW issues that had no obvious cause but had to be resolved.

It has always been a mini -- was a nice cascade.

Jim, I'm having trouble with a cotoneaster microphylla right now that to me looks like blight. Mine is just a couple year old cutting, but leaves are turning entirely brown on whole branches in a matter of days. I've sprayed and segregated, so nothing to do now but wait.

You have a very nice looking trunk there, so perhaps this will turn out to be a fortuitous incident. Good luck.

I have a dammeri that I bought last summer, and cut down to the nubbins this spring. It's breaking bud like crazy this year. Can't control it.

I'm guessing you dont spend a lot on wire or soil components.

Well, while most of my trees are shohin (or smaller) not all of them are (tho I'm slowly getting rid of the larger ones). A bag of Turface will last me for three years. :o

Jim,

Can you post a picture from it's Cascade days? I think I like it much better now. Wasn't that your only cascade though?

If you ever get sick of lugging that Orange "bow maker" around, I'll even take the trip down to get it.

I definitely prefer the current design than the cascade.

Very nice,,,hope it respond to the repot well.

I was referring to your Osage Orange since the wood is strong and flexible and prized for bow making, but I know you won't part with that any time soon.

Alas, that one bit the dust over our last winter. Quite a surprise since they come from the cold midwest. I was too ill to do much care for my trees this past winter.

Do you want the bones??????

That is too bad. I bet the bones could make a nice slingshot or knife handle or tanuki perhaps.

I'm not sure if that is worth the drive however.

I know a lot of people had a rough winter, but all of my trees that I had outside came through just fine with the exception of a couple oaks that I "insulted" multiple times in the previous growing season.

I probably spill more substrate than you use!
