do fabians make good bonsais?

Do Aralia branch? Doesn't seem to me like it'd make a very convincing bonsai.

I didn't want to create a new thread for this so I did a bit of threadnecromancy.

Some sort of aralia.
Looks fabian-ish, with variegated leaves.

The whole thing needs work.

I've read that you can reduce the leaves,
Get it to branch and get decent ramification.
However, I haven't seen it.
It's not that treelike as it is but the trunk looks like a ficus in many ways.
Can these look like trees?
It's a cool plant but I just don't know if it will work.
Pictures of treelike aralia would be great.
