I started using a Bloomspect 600W for my tropicals when I bring them inside for the winter, mostly ficus and hopefully Royal Ponciana (2 seeds from Panama that were given to me from a friend) but waiting for my sister to sent me a few more from Puerto Rico. The one on the link is the "new improved" version, which only has one power switch while mine have 2, one for VEG (blue light) and one for FLWR (red light). I used a full spectrum light before that, and since I added the Bloomspect with the blue light only running the plants have developed twice as fast.

MULTI-TRUNK/FOREST/CLUMP STYLE IDEA

So I have taken a liking to the small blocks of Grodan Stonewool.Mainly the ease of watering only every three days is the big seller to me.Makes my job alot easier.I see no reason these will not produce outstanding growth.....air-pruning from the bottom of blocks also.I have planted a few in the 3” blocks and they are doing well.

I do believe that multi-trunk starters can be made of JBP seedling cuttings or anything else for that matter with these 2” blocks quite productively!
Now,with the blue spectrum supplimental lighting,I can make growth compact enough to not get too gangly for such a small, contained growing space for up to 7 seedlings......though 5 seems the magic number for now.

Very excited for this, though I do not see too many Multi-Trunk bonsai style of Japanese Black Pines.I know they are out there.I would of loved to post photos.
Keeping the cuttings very small is a big help for me and also this is immensly time saving for me,so I can offer a discount on the finished product possibly up to 50% of regular seedling cutting price.

I have about 400 seedlings of JBP a week or so away from being cut..........so a very fun and new idea for me.
These should strike very well directly into the blocks of Stonewool from the start..........The beauty and reward of 100% strike rates with cuttings. The roots should all fuse together nicely in the little 2” blocks......especially with a slower top-growth rate.I can point them different angles too by directing the holes initially when creating the cuttings.

I will keep everybody posted.

These very compact JBP seedling cuttings I am experimenting with fit the bill quite nicely for an endeavor such as this!
A 3/4” JBP SEEDLING CUTTING ALREADY PUSHING THE TERMINAL BUDSET!!!!!

This is all in the trial stage yet,but the resulting time saved for getting a bigger truck respectively is quite satisfying .....to me anyway.

I started sequoia indoor in 50% perlite dans 50% vermiculite, near a window, in a tray with glass above as yours. It started to germinate and grow few days ago but I think I watered too much (I just watered when I sowed) the soil... and now I have some mold that grow in some areas and that killed already one little seedling. I'm worry about loosing all. Any advice ?

Do 20 of them, at least one will survive :)

Both of those are pretty porous and not very moisture retaining, are you sure they were getting enough water?

Did you do something different this go around to make the nebari be more pronounced?
Perhaps just getting better at cuttings....getting 100% success rates.......although I always used to toss un-full rooted cuttings on my previous sales last season.

Pine seedling cuttings Clump Bonsai idea underway tomorrow.

Been looking forward to this and prepping the JBP seedlings.
Just look how the fulvic/kelp foliar adheres to the pine needles from the yucca powder addition....really improves rooting and % .
Will just stick perhaps up to 9 cuttings in one of the 2” Grodan Mini- Blocks. That way if any succumb In the future the grower still has options to compensate.Absolutely no transplanting....pre-rooted cuttings stuck into the block immediately.
Will be growing these in a blue enhanced grow tent so they grow smaller and all fit in there.
Similiar to the cutting below............much more dwarf.
Fun project!!!
In 6 mnths what’s to stop from having a 3” trunked pine maybe to spend a season or two fusing together then? After wrapping them in some shielded wire to assist the fusing together at the base of the trunks.
Awesome to me.

7 tree Jbp seedling cutting clump style bonsai starters.

Ok,gave this a go this evening.I’m excited for this!
7 tree clumps for now....perhaps 9 in the future.
After a season growth these will need wired together at the base along with tubing and then bury a bit in the media and they should fuse somewhat in no time.
Two seasons could potentially produce a 2” or more trunk and training start right away.

These are in 2” Grodan mini-Blocks.Will literally be a block of roots.......so awesome!

Prepared a rooting area using my new HLG 4000k light bars...strong in the blue spectrum and I also added another 50-75 ppfd to suppliment........as they root I can add more blue as I have a ton of the 25 watt blue leds.

I always keep some type of light up until severing the stem to keep them photosynthesizing right up until the end.......I believe makes a difference.......even an hour of sitting probably starts the downstream effect of the energy going down into the stem and roots as an overnight normal process.....I ALWAYS take cuttings at end of light cycle at least 2 hours after a thorough watering too...so turgid and hydrated and full of photosynthetic energy.
Stems were good and red too....prime cutting time.
I’m diggin’ the rockwool....way convenient,sterile....water conserving and a nice system too.

potting up seedling cuttings outside

These are cool.Quite small, but cool nontheless.
Soooo tempted with the Grodan stonewool in the Rootpouches.Makes life so easy.Seems perfect match with the aeration of the pouches.8FD7C1B1-C80D-4639-BD6C-315044C3383A.jpegA724BD59-9BE9-4A86-A0E9-9D3C2AE99464.jpegCF765E6D-D8E9-4F03-A905-E6C857160456.jpegEC87ECF8-CCA2-476C-9123-2F69EBACE3C5.jpegD11502F9-0453-4362-A70C-80E726A96836.jpeg39596577-029E-4736-BDF3-2CA478DB62DC.jpegView attachment 36297954302EE5-05B8-4E9D-B065-6C0AD7DA8FC7.jpeg505A1E7F-2B50-47C0-9196-813344A3946F.jpeg

Do roots grow inside the stonewool? Or just between them? I am shredding my sphagnum moss for air-layers because I hate all the extra work to clear the new roots from them. I can't imagine trying to clear roots from those little cubes.

Getting the Chojubai thing on!!!

Ok,had a rare find online of a rather large Chojubai Quince of the white variety.
Hardly see this actually. It finally arrived today and I gave it a rootprune ,flushed the remaining rootball and stuck into the cubes.
Should make a nice motherplant and try to sell these as I am legal to ship later this season.

Also I find the regular species interesting also.
I bought 1/4 lb of fresh seed and I will sew loads of them and maintain a few years to see the variability and then proceed to make selections.Hopefully these flower within 5 years.
Could be interesting really if someone was to take the time.

Anyways this white chojubai has a tent all itself!!!02F847D6-1C60-46E6-A611-355FDFC83B1A.jpeg8AEAEECA-7E3C-4713-B87A-B0C3635FD6ED.jpeg0D229DDA-56C4-4F0B-9051-F8C2EE661A3B.jpeg

This chojubai pretty cool.

Take my time with this and prepare properly for cuttings....I cannot decide which method for propogation, although I am leaning towards aeroponicaly.Once you get roots this way it is hard to deny the ease of the process and transitioning into the grow environment. There is never an issue with leaves succumbing to a dryer humidity growing environment as the aeroponics work better with any humidity domes removed......after the first few days anyway.

That’s gonna be nice! Does the seedling cutting create a more substantial vascular system in the roots? I find that technique cool!
