Starter test of White Chojubai cuttings.

See how domes do in the mini blocks elevated on a smart tray with 1/4” of water in bottom for high humidity set to 84f.Dip&gro at 10x strength for 20 seconds.
Did about 22 cuttings to improve density on the new motherplant.

Japanese Red Pine seedling cuttings!!!

I finally got around to starting Japanese Red Pine.
I am making a bunch of singles in the 1.5” mini blocks and I may as well make the kabudaci starters in the 2” blocks.
Made 72 this evening and put into the propogation tent.
Should be ready in 2 mnths!!!!
Should have over 400 of both Japanese Black & Red Pines for sure and keep on making the remainder of the growing season as I got a late start.

Nice Curtis! Red pine are great and respond well. With the cubes, do you water them? I'm trying grodan and some root riot ones from growth technology. I'm also getting the cubes as close to the heat mat as possible. There's lots to like about the cubes.

I find it best and fastest when the cubes sit on the smart tray suspended over water. That way they are very humid and can run higher heat at 85 f as grodan suggests......And leave them for first week untouched or dome opened.
Roots at least a week faster with this way. These i structuons are on the aok plugs bag........these i structions are not on the mini block packages.

Ah, so the tray sits on the heat mat and the plugs are suspended above? So the humidity transfers the heat to the plugs?

Yes a flat with a smart tray inside with 1/2” of water in flat not touching cubes heat 85f which is 10 degrees hotter than usual and root a week faster...cubes on smart tray

Red Chojubai added to the propogation list!!!

Thanks to Brent!
Bought several small ones.I will just pot up into a single pot and grow on a bit.Every time these are topped back for branching is a great time to test propogation methods.

The White Chojubai responded dramatically to the indoor hydro environment.

NEW CHOJUBAI TOY(hopefully).

I have a hunch chojubai will do better aeroponically........domes can have so much humidity sometimes that if your clones do not root in a couple weeks they can suffer some serious setbacks( namely the deciduous).....we’ll see.Got the 128 site(discount on amazon).

Fun time!!! Lots of JBP SEEDLING CUTTINGS TO MAKE.

So in about 10 weeks I will have around 400 of these......some reds, some blacks and kabudaci starters from 1-7 trees per block.

Will have about 60 ready in just a few weeks of the 5 & 7 tree blocks of black pine.

The blocks can be combi ed if need be as 3 seedlings may not be enough to compensate a loss of one of them.

Was going to make these all singles in the 1.5 inch blocks, but since these seedlings are getting past the mark for cuttings ,I planted 3 per block.

Should root fast though.......I wonder if it’s actually better to wait this long.
When they start getting this old I find it best to cut really short into the slightly softer wood.
Which is a good thing!

Getting quite fast at sticking these.....just push them into the blocks.

Roots are vigorous and very dense...........just peel off the plastic and plant.

I usually scissor prune the bottoms repeatedly....unless they are elevated enough will air prune.Mine always stretch the 2 inches to the bottom of my tent for moisture so I manually prune😆
About 60 of these be ready in 2-3 weeks.
This was a test run.I like them, its a go for sure.

Chojubai wish me luck

5 min dip&gro 10x strength....then a dip of gel at the tip so no embolism while making all the cuts.

30 min later a cloner full of 44 white chojubai cuttings.
Cycle timer for pump 1 min on 5 min off for a 68-71 f water temp.
About 68 f room temp @60-65% RH.

My usual resevoir recipe(deionized water).

Clonex liquid
Hormex liquid
Hygrozyme enzymatic cleaner
Photosynthesis plus microbes

Yea for sure!
Although nearly all of these wilted in two days.
I belive these need to be heavier in wood to withstand the process.
I will get it figured out.

Well,just back to bonsai.

These are outside ,about 50 kabudachi JBP seedling cutting starters.Another 30 or so Kabudachi Red Pine starters on the way in propogation. Then a bunch more too in propogation.I’m losing track.
These are all going outside and being kept for my own hobby fascination.
I did announce in my other thread that the CMBONSAI BUSINESS is too much work along side my new career ,as I have been through 3 jobs since leaving my job of fifteen years and went absolutely covid broke.......Thanks for all the support from everyone last season on that front.Much appreciated.
Anyways back to the hobby of it all.OUTSIDE!!!.

Using a flood table for ease of watering these mini cubes......Must water daily also with a morning mist or they will suffer a big setback.

I like these....also tons of maples and elms now and more on the way!

Awesome outside in the sunshine.

I am into the Field Maple so much.Maybe the name really.A sun hardy maple in a field always sounded appealing.

So will have something for the indoor Winter crop.
I belive the kelp and other bio stimulants will improve the growth coursness these tend to have.Nothing but these during the cold season. Will be fun.
Must of soaked a 1/4 lb of seed today in the kelp to help initiate dormany break responses in these hard seed coats.

I have a bunch sprouting outside now too.

Also the pines are pushing roots out the bigger blocks already......
The Field maples will grow from blocks too.......and air-layering some seedlings too.
Eventually you think the Grodan Stonewool Blocks will just turn into a clump of nebari/exposted roots type of deal as the wool slowly slips away over time?
I do!!!
They grow great in these with VERY even moisture.....for starters anyways..........I will push these into bigger blocks, the whole growout process and see what gives!!!
