He was our guest speaker.
That Scots pine is wonderful.
He said he traded a guy a jbp shohin for it.
Deal of the century.
Jack did a prostrate juniper fir his demonstration tree. I neglected to take pictures of it but it turned out great.
John Wall was there as a vendor. He did last years demonstration. He won the John Naka award this year with an eastern white cedar. Really cool guy too.
Everyone there is after me to collect those things to bring down.

And them others are so big!

Hey....did you get a pic of Vance tree in my pot?

No. He didn't do it up yet.
The talking started and the tree work slowed down.
You saw how it was.
He may have did it after I left though.

Jack Sustic is former curator of the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in D.C. He retired two years ago and moved back to Michigan.

He helped the museum expand and become a center of bonsai. Under his leadership, the 5th World Bonsai Convention was convened in D.C. back in 2005., launched the museum's intership program and other landmark stuff.

He was a great talent and this area misses him.

Here's one for now.
These guys are great!
I couldn't get everybody together at the same times.
But Sorce did make it.
The man is one of the best people I've ever met. He drove over 5 hours there and 5 hours back just to see Vance and I. You kind of get a feeling of how he is through his posts when you meet him in person it comes through a lot.
Meeting Sorce was the highlight of the show for me. It might be the highlight of my year even.View attachment 205916
Dang it, I was standing right next to you and Mike didn't say spit. Nice to finally put a face with the name.

And larger, we may have to expand next year. One of my students won a major award in his category this year. I keep forgetting to tell Leonard what a great job he has done with his Tanukis. The only Tanuki grafts I actually like.
Thanks Vance. That actually means more than any ribbon could to me.

I came away from the show with these.
3 Sorce pots! Hand delivered. Sweet things these.
And a book. The only bonsai book I've ever read. There is a copy at the county library but they wouldn't sell it. It's the one that helped me get started long ago. That and pictures in a National Geographic magazine were all I had to go on. I didnt know there were clubs and such things living in the remote area I do.
A member ,Vance Hanna is moving to California and can't take everything. He wanted 3 dollars for it but when I told him my story he gave it to me. For nostalgia sake he said. Great guy,big loss for the club.20180815_163213.jpg
