I want to hear more arguments ..Bonsai Humor Thread No. 2

nope, only the things that you seem to take for granted, but most of the world would find pretty weird.
so, please explain why the usa military has their own timezone, and hoe does it relate to utc timezones?

The military time zone is called Zulu and its equivalent to UTC. Im guessing you already know this though and only asked it to prove a point??
Its the same thing except militaries call it [insert time] zulu instead of UTC maybe because its faster to say Zulu??
It isn't restricted to U.S. military, all NATO armed forces use it so that if they ever need to coordinate something, they are all on the same page so to speak.

Zulu- also the NATO phonetic for the letter Z BTW - comes across radio transmissions clearer. Between all the various sources of static, background noise, enemy jamming and decryption attempts, etc. it's actually very practical to have well established conventions for wireless communication. Most people do it on the fly routinely just talking on the phone, NATO just standardized it.

If we can standardize a phonetic alphabet between 32 countries, why the hell did it take me 3 trips across town earlier in the week to get a new knob for my bathtub? Not even trying to match the look, just one that would fit so I could shower, but nooooo, like 300 different variants of shapes and sizes for different valve stems of different shapes and sizes, and of course half of them are proprietary, and I have to try two different hardware stores to find anything that works, and it's still too short, but at least it work the water.

Anyways, what were we talking about again?

I’ve heard a well known professional be adamant there’s a correlation between public collections and nearby clubs having higher than average club skill level. Although there’s many examples of this being true, there’s plenty of examples otherwise.

I heartily agree!
I understand the desire to add contrast between live veins and deadwood, but this method loses allot of the character.
I understand that it's compounded when we see the trees in pics on a phone, but the blazing white all across decreases the effects of shadow, and also makes it very difficult to see the lines of grain in the wood, which effects combine to ruin the three dimensional visual. You can no longer see the movement of the wood, and that, more than anything else, is what makes deadwood interesting.

There must be better ways to manage the color so that we can maintain, or even exaggerate if we want, the shape and texture of deadwood. I imagine if you're brave you could try stains of different colors/shades in different spots to accentuate different curves.
I mean... It's just what I had at hand when I was doing my tanuki but I did try pine tar on some sage, far from perfect, but it does appear more believable then the sulfur,

Also leatherback did try some kinda plastic on his in a video which seems promising for holding up overtime,

But I'm still not entirely satisfied, I'll have to continue looking for ways wood is preserved in nature and see if there are good ways to repeat that

Nope, did not know. If I wanted to make a point, I would make a point.

Makes sense

Hm. So I am still not clear why one would ask wether something is military time.

thx.

Military time (ie not time zone) is different.
That is a time scheme that uses 24 hours in the day 1-24 to designate time instead of 1-12 AM or PM.
So 5PM would be 1700 hours military time. 1700-1200=500. Just a way of saying time without adding AM/PM
Why they do this, IDK. Maybe for the same reasons militaries use zulu, its clearer to say and less likely to hear or say the wrong one.

I'm going to study this military time stuff.
I must have been to missile training when we had it at the academy

this is when I switch it up and tell know it all newbs to fertilize their trees with rock salt. Works every time. :D
This is like the "Hold Alt and type FOX for a cool Easter egg" when you were chatting with people in an online game.

Back in the day Alt + F X opened the file menu and exited the program.

Ohw... 😳

Is the use of a 24hr clock something special in the USA that you give it a special name. Wow.

I guess all my digital systems are set to 24hrs.

In writing I guess I use 17:00 when you use 5 in the afternoon / 5PM. For me, there are 24 hours in a day 🤷‍♀️.
I guess that is all part of where you grow up.

Had to look it up and .. The world seems to be pretty divided..

Huh... The American military teaches you it during boot, kinda curious what other countries basic training looks like now 🤔

Can confirm, just more precise and can help communication more efficiently, especially when talking to people who are half awake at 0530 after gunny timing a morning ruck.

(>.>) (<.<) (>.>) but you didn't hear it from me

I was not at the academy Doc. I can say I escaped it narrowly, but it is different story.

I was just quoting Fibi from Friends and I messed up youtube link.

One time when I was doing phone support an HVAC tech was reading off his assignment number to me and he said "Y as in Wyoming" I had to mute because I was laughing so hard.

We all have different types of intelligence. I'm in awe of people who have a technical intelligence that I lack. "Y for Wyoming is not a mistake I would ever make, but I can only imagine the gut busters I've given people who outwit me in other areas over the years.

I did have the NATO phonetic alphabet pinned up on the wall of my cubicle because saying "D as in David" just wasn't as cool as "D as in Delta"

They are joking with you. Military time isn't a time zone, but uses the 24 hour time instead of 12.

6 AM = 0600
12 PM = 1200
1 PM = 1300
9 PM = 2100

EDIT: I now read other comments about the military using zulu time. That's not really military time, but it is universal time that allows people in different time zones to be on the same page at the same time.

Having been in the military for 6 years, I feel I go overboard when using the phonetic alphabet at work. So I begrudgingly say things like "S as in Steve" when I REALLY want to say Sierra. I guess M is safe either way. 🤪

I use cut paste to hide the wound until I forget about it, and then, several weeks later, remember it again and say " Wow, look how fast that healed!"
