Just bought this portable greenhouse.

I'm wondering how hot is too hot.

Yesterday and today it got up to 80deg, (58 ambient). Is this alright? As the spring gets hotter, this is only going to increase. Should I just leave the doors open? Or maybe move it.

Its in full sun from morning to about 5pm. I have the option of also moving it closer to the garage where it would only get direct morning sun until noon.

Inside I have my repotted maples, some collected trees and a seed tray of JM seeds.

I would leave the doors open or use an auto venting system for when the temps get above about 72 or so. I have an electric vent on one end with a draw fan on the other end so the cool air from out runs thru the house and pulls temps down. I don't know what your lows are now, but once we get to the temps not going below 40 I take everything outside. So if you don't have any low temps in your area, it may be time to get outside. Your thoughts on transpiration would be a valid one if you are able to keep the greenhouse pretty humid. I do have a humidifier in my house, keep it above 55 humidity in there. For seedlings keeping them warm and out of strong winds can be helpful until you can harden them off. Seedling heat mats can help with that if you have colder temps and need some heat.

To get ahead start on growth. Isn't that why people use greenhouses?
most people I know use it for frost-protection.
I try to start my trees as late as possible to reduce frost-damage, and have hiher solar irradiation when the tree starts growing, aiding in compacter growth.

These are all pre-bonsai, I'm not really concerned with compact growth. Is this unconventional?

That looks like a hotspot. I’d be worried about it getting too warm in there too fast.
As the temps get higher, transpiration will increase, therefore negating any benefits from the shelter.
Maybe relocate it to a partial shade environment.

I'd also be concerned with it getting too hot.
Want take much for temperatures to get over 85 in there and you'll need to take them out to what will probably be lower temperatures. You could find yourself with the reverse problem: having to take them out when it's too cold or windy for the new leaves.

I have my vent fans kick on at 65 and pull portions of the side walls out once the day time average temp hits about 70.

The primary purpose is over wintering. Most of the summer it’s a workshop/pipe smoking spot.
Yep, once the temps stay above 50°, the only thing in the greenhouse are tropicals and myself Smoking herb.

I hear that - fortunately things should go outside for good tomorrow.

Now that I say that I’m sure I’ll have to pull them in in May

I'm moving mine out a few at a time, too much rain here this year so pines go back in when there is a lot of rain. I keep my BRTs in there until maybe end of June and Junipers stay in til end of May to try and avoid the dreaded, orange glob, rust.

hot box in the hot box? puff puff pass bro :)

Green house indeed.

You are correct in thinking that using a greenhouse will extend your growing season as well as for wintering over. Nigel Saunders in Ontario says his greenhouse extends his season by 2 months at least. In my case I want a place where the trees can stay until the last of the freezes have passed and also a place where I can put trees after repotting. I lost a bald cypress last winter and all the flower buds on my biggest wisteria due to the freezes. I am also tired of doing the bonsai shuffle each winter/spring.
