That's about a half hr from my friend's place so probably a good option. Thanks!
What about Akita bonsai nursery?I second this. It is a 30 - 45 min drive from Irvine, but its a dedicated bonsai nursery with a good selection of Juniper and Black Pine prebonsai in various stages of development. Here is a couple photos I snapped when I was there a few weeks ago and a shot of the tree I went with:

If you are looking for shohin, Gary is the guy. His trees will be more expensive, but they are worth it because they are at a much higher level than what you will find at House of Bonsai. Don't get me wrong, I have done a lot of shopping at House of Bonsai as well, but more for pre-bonsai and large pots.if time allows, i respectfully recommend Chikugo-en (Gary Ishii) in somewhat nearby gardena.
almost an hour north is Roy Nagatoshi's Fuji Bonsai Nursery in sylmar.
Akita bonsai nursery on Warner Ave. Huntington Beach. I drove by it many times but never visited it!!!! Just a look from outside, I saw a lot of JBP landscaping style. If you visit it, please let us know. ThanksI emailed them and didn't get a response yet. Anyone familiar with Akita nursery?
Thanks for saving me a trip to Akita!Went to Akita and House of bonsai. Didn't really find anything like what I was looking for but there was a lot of larger material.
