I live in southern california and it's the beginning of summer over here. Would it be too late to start a JM air layering project?

I would think you. Still could give how potentially long your grow season can be. It's too late here in Colorado.

I'm starting one today on an A.p. 'Shishigashira'. I've already separated 3 layers from this tree this spring and have a ground layer that has taken and will be separated in September....which is when I figure the layer started today will be ready. Mind you, I've never started a layer this late, but this particular tree really seems to like being layered, so I'm giving it a go.
