In "The Eighth Day" Thornton Wilder had this to say about "hope."

So defenseless is hope before the court of reason that it stands in constant need of fashioning its own confirmations.

Well, I don't think there IS any hope for this tree. Just grasping at whatever straws MIGHT be applicable.
This is the baked pine:

whole sad mess.JPG;

Purty bad, huh? Today I took off ...all.. the wire. (Probably in consideration of the garden waste removal place)
Shit, it only took several fewer days and hours to take the crap OFF!

My question to the forum is whether ANYTHING would be something ELSE to do. Pulling on the dead needles, some of the entire tuft pulled off. On others, they are held fast.

As you can see, there is still a SMIDGEN of life somewhere in that log. I have no illusions that ...I... will live to see any results but possibly whoever manages to get stuck with the thing
might have time to make at least a LIVE TREE out of it. Somewhere over the rainbow. :(

In stupid HOPE and desperation, I am posting some pix. Some have possible cuts. Some just focus on what small bit is green. ...ish.

If you have the inclination, take a look, get pissed, and toss out anything you might have in your repertoire. 😢

Be as brutal as you want. I don't have any real hope that it can even be saved. In ANY shape.

Here goes:

Well.... You get the drift.

Apologies for taking your time.

Anything to add except suggesting a bare root repot would be nice.

Hm.. carefull with water. Dappled shade.

It is not dead yet. Some green healthy needles.

I still have to see trees recover from this but..

Just leave it alone right now. If it has any hope at all, making cuts all over it isnt going to help.
Just water when it needs it and leave it in the shade and hope it recovers.
You already know it doesnt look good.
Its just to hot in S Cali for this species....sorry

A rapid cooling trend is supposed to start tomorrow. All the way down to 98 or so.

Slip it out of the pot and put it in the ground. Don't disturb the roots any more than you have. Leave it in the ground 2-3 years.

I'd be afraid to. It's in a plastic pot with open bottom. Like an Anderson flat but not square. It drained well til the heat hit it.

This was it pre-heat. This year.

I am not sure why you would be afraid to do so. I am certain it is the best thing to do for it and I honestly believe its the only chance it has.

This is a good alternative.

Hmmm. Maybe great idea. It has always been in the wrong climate for scots. The 2 repots over the years ...1 for broken pot...never showed any nice strong roots.
At this point, I would think any root disturbance would be really bad.

Pot is now buried in flower bed. We shall see. No bets on it but at least it's off the shelf and getting .....some.... shot.

Isn't Lincoln in north Cali near Frisco? didn't realize it got so hot there. Must be inland.
About 15-20 miles north of Sacramento. Yes, it's inland. And currently full of smoke from the fires.
Had I known 20+ years ago that scots would hate it, I would never have gotten the tree.

Newbie mistake.

JBP seems to RELISH the furnace. Oak and olive too.

Sticking with them.

Not if putting whole flat in ground perhaps. Fingers crossed here also.
