Three yeara from seed collected in Hawley, PA on a hike. Only Larch that germinated from the collected seeds. Growing as an informal upright. Just letting the tree grow at this point. Needs a repot next year into a bigger grow box for thickening. Roots need sorting. Etc. I like the subtle trunk movement. I wired the tree heavily last year to get some movement into it.

Currently 10" tall. 3/8" thick trunk.

Nice! Also next year wire a the lowest branch to be the next leader. When wiring have your height in mind.

Nice I’m impressed with the amount of growth in 3 years . Considering where I live I have not ventured into larch . Even though I am mostly interested in native trees . The amount of high quality collected trees I have seen . Is more of a deterrent than a inspiration . Keep thinking I need to search one out but difficult to find . I think like you I need to just start growing some

I think once in a grow box and left u restrained, it will really thicken up a bit after two or three more years.

Buds moving. Decided to repot today:

Had a decent root structure, pruned maybe 50% off, and the downward facing roots. Put it in a training pot with proper front showing.

Final for now. Will let it grow the rest of the year with heavy fertilization. Maybe will do some minor pruning depending on strength of growth.

End of year. Very happy with progress. Decided to wire some additional movement and potential new leader. Next year will mainly fertilize heavily and give a similar mid-summer prune to what it received this past year. I'll cut back to the new leader at this time. Added .20" in thickness this year..

Noticed a few buds starting to move. Spring is here. Cleaned up the soil surface, removed fall wire. Not repotting this year.
