A lot of people new to the craft seem to think we are being assholes for harping on "Where are you from?"; NOT.
Most of the more experienced growers want to give you the best advice they can--they want you to succeed.
BUT no one is able to do that without knowing where they are speaking to.
I would tell someone in Miami, "Sure go ahead and fertilize you've still got plenty of season."; however, I would tell
someone in Michigan, "No you best be find someplace to hunker down and protect your trees thru the winter"
because that is what they are facing respectively.
Asking for help while keeping them in the dark is kind of like going to the doctor and refusing to tell him/her "where it hurts".
PLEASE POST YOUR LOCATION so we can help. Here is a nifty tool that will help you with your zone as well.
Enter your zip hit the zoom to zip button and voila.

And Zone does matter too. Especially when it comes to mountains, man made mountains of the Iron and Glass variety, etc, etc.

Welcome Back Friend!

I might add, within each zone there can be microclimates with significant variations from a plant growing perspective. When asking for advice, add any additional details that might be important - e.g. high or low sun exposure, south facing slope, regular high winds, regular fog, etc.

As a member outside the USA the problem is compounded when members are from a different hemisphere where even the season is different.
Some guide in the profile definitely helps you get better advice.

Did you scroll down that page?
There are links with equivalent procedures for just about the entire world.

I think location and zone are required, as the USDA zone is only a one-dimensional aspect of climate. There are reasons that Japanese maples thrive in zone 10 of the Bay Area but struggle in zone 10 in LA.
