Making bonsai pots

So being new to bonsai, I decided to do as much research about it so I'd know what I'm getting myself into - which brings me to the topic of bonsai pots. Being an ex-college person who has many real world bills to pay, I decided to do bonsai on a budget - including collecting a lot of wild material for free or finding nursery stock at an affordable price. However, doing a simple search for pots on the internet, it quickly became clear to me that I had to find an alternate source for finished pots for my bonsai short of winning the lottery. (most of my collected stuff is the medium to large size - hence the worry)

Note* I don't have any bonsai at this point that warrant a finished display pot, (they're all in wooden training boxes or nursery pots) but I'm one of those people that likes to think ahead and always have a backup plan just in case.

Coincidentally, Through the years I have picked up pottery making, and have gotten pretty proficient at it (I regularly make recreation Native American earthenware using local clay, techniques, and firing methods - actually very similar to a primitive form of Raku) So I was wondering: are there any fellow potters on this forum that know the particulars of making bonsai pots? Specifically, clay used, and cone temp to fire at? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Bonsai pots are fun to make. You are smart to start early, as the first pots may be less that show quality. ( All potters are chuckling)

BigDave, Thanks for the links...very educating.

brewmeister83, Read about proper drying the clay. I've read many potter's having problems with cracking due to fast drying. Good luck!
