Really excited seeing you approach it this way. Im new to bonsai. New as in a week or two and don’t even have any proper trees yet. But it really fascinates me I’ve always loved trees and all plants.
Great white is good stuff. Always used it when I used to grow indoor cannabis. Dusted it on the rootball every time I transplanted which was from a seedling cup to 2gal then to 5 gal. Always used smart pots and would have roots barely poking out of the pots all over. Would get amazing thick white fuzzy spaghetti roots. Would occasionally mix it in while watering too.

For cannabis I would cut a fresh leaf of Aloe off of my aloe houseplant and squeeze that into a glass of water then take my cuttings and place them in the water for most of the day 8-12 hours or so and then put them straight into soil. Promix actually with perlite added 2:1. Keep them in a small dome with a little light a simple cfl would work. Every day I would spray the lid of the dome and would always have rooted cuttings within a week. Put a small heating pad under if it’s not staying warm enough. If they weren’t rooted by then I threw them out because I would always take more cuttings than I needed. I know trees are different but it was always wild to me to Propagate a completely new plant in 7 days.

right on, does the aloe protect the roots while they are getting established?

Cool.... I Zelkova is getting stronger and the Hawthorne are rooting too I’m getting a little white microscopic root tips and callous......the softer ones did not make it so definitely got to be more turgid with the Hawthorne👍
Thanks for sharing info!

Hesitate to mention something that does not involve a formulae. Have you tired sealing the top of some of the cuttings or places where several off shoots may have been removed from the cutting itself!. This often limits moisture demand on the cut vascular system and leads to improved cutting success! particularly where more callus time is required! I have found this very important with Ume cuttings! I do note in some of the cutting pictures that there does not appear to be any sealant applied.
As an extra bonus the sealant on the top helps to retain correct orientation if leaves are not present.
Just a thought, even though your system should limit this problem with higher humidity.

For deciduous I prefer the orange top jin sealant, however even Elmers wood glue will make a difference if you have that handy!Liquid type sealant rather than paste will be more effective in your particular situation I would expect!

So excited these ‘pauls scarlet’ seem a real possibility....10-14 days now...just about ready for little root nubs...callousing and having 4 internodes in the resevoir is awesome👍
These are usually quite difficult I was under the impression.Hopefully radial rooting with this method.Keeping ph perfect for rooting 5.7-5.9.

How are maples @StreamGrove ?

My Hawthorn are crazy callus,no roots. Not sure where to go from here.Maybe add a rooting stimulant like kelp based.I did add some Roots Excellerator....and am cycling the pump on 15 min off 60 minutes.
Freakin’ 8 weeks!!
I guess they eventually root. They seem happy as a bug in a rug.
I keep the dome on .......its not really overly humid in there....probably 70% RH.

The hygrozyme enzymatic cleaner does a great job keeping a clean environment without bleach.
I just emptied the other cloner after 6weeks and it smelled cleaner than a fish tank....absolutely no oder at 70-75f water temps.Thats a plus anyway.
