Most of you know this but I keep hearing and reading that Mas has passed away. I spoke to Gary to day and he assures me this isn't true. He is " alive , well and puttering with the trees ".

03-05-2013 My Uncle is Mas Ishii of the CHIKUGO-EN Nursery in Gardena California: He has past away today. He is survived by my Aunt Rei, Son Gary , Daughter Arlene, Son in-law Tom, Grand Daughter Emily and Great Grand Daughter Joslyn.
We will all miss him greatly.
He will always be remembered for his great passion for Bonsai.

Very sad news. I had the fortune of meeting him a few years back while on vacation in CA. He took me around his nursery for about a half hour telling me stories about some of the gorgeous trees they had at the nursery. He got a kick out of the fact that I spoke a little japanese. He also gave me a small itoigawa whip for free which was really generous of him. An incredibly nice, kind soul - my condolences to his family.
