Mastering Bonsai or rather having mastered Bonsai

I purchased a trolling motor from tesla just to troll Sifu!

What do yoga pants and Adair have in common?

"What a great ass!"

Is Adair the rightest wrong person....
Or is Anthony the wrongest right person?

Sorce

Sorce riddles gotta love em!!!!!!

It does kick start my brain in the morning lmao. Even when I don't want to start thinking...

Good to know ur familiar with Adairs ass lmfao! :p

So folks, you look for people who have been doing bonsai for say 50 years and
the trees are healthy and designs impressive.

Do they write books on Bonsai ?

Imagine what they could share...........................

Now I ask, who has written these books and where can I purchase them ?

In the 1800's there are quite a few books on Fine Art by folk who had painted for
years, with helpful information, not just the technical, but experiences that
help.

Shouldn't such books exist in Bonsai ?
Anyone, help ?
Thanks in Advance.
Anthony

* Yes, I know of the Murata books.
Anthony,

You asked if anyone who has been doing bonsai for 50 years has written a book about their 50 years of doing bonsai. And asked where you could buy one. Right?

Then Bill Valavanis offered to sell you one of his few remaining copies of his book, which has as a part of its title "a half century of bonsai study". That's 50 years. And he says he will sell you a copy, even though it's out of print.

And you turn him down? For lack of funds?

Then why did you start this thread? Why ask people what book, and where to buy if you can't afford to buy what they recommend?

You've wasted everyone's time who has tried to help you.

Can you not see why I'm frustrated with you?

Sifu,

bought from Mr.Valavanis -

[1] Count Matsudaira [ spelling ?] book [ ask him the price back then of this book ] 1986 or earlier
[2] Masakuni concave 6.5 pruner
[3] Bonsai. past. present.future - has 2013 invitation --- 50 years of Bonsai
[4] Japanese book on conifers - has pottery making information
[5] Japanese book on deciduous - has pottery making information
[7 ] About 12 issues of International Bonsai - 79 forward if memory is correct [ michi shiba - grass on the roadside ]

Now how would I disappoint Mr.Valavanis, especially when I believe Guy Guidry's
teacher suggested a call to him and he answered mowing the lawn.in 1980

And so the Sifu's rant continued.
Thou hast mine sympathies.
Your unlearned student.
Anthony :)

Inquiring minds want to know?
Tesla doesnt make trolling motors. Evenrude, Mercury, Yamaha and Johnson do among others.

Oh and this guy:

Joking aside, I have largely stayed out of this discussion. I can understand the frustration that @Adair M has.
BUT, not for nothing, in the process of weeding the stupid little vinegar clovers that have infested my pots , I DO take a look at every tree as I move from pot to pot.
I found a spider mite infestation on one juniper doing this just yesterday actually.

I let sprinklers take care of the watering now, but I do keep tabs on them to make sure they are watering adequately and the spacial coverage is staying the same so that all the trees get water. I have to make adjustments once in a while. Did that this morning before work. This allows me to spend less time making sure I water each pot adequately and spend more time weeding  and spending more time looking at each tree for other issues or for general health and what it is doing.
I also do some design decisions, pruning, wiring, etc on my trees as well. Not as much as I probably should have but Im getting there more and more as my confidence has increased over the last few years.

Sandy,

when I weed, I cut down to the area around the root, where no sprouting can come from.
This leaves the soil undisturbed and roots to rot back in, with nutrients and food for microbes.
Sort of lazy man's composting.

Sometimes you can use the weeds to help a tree water wise, they provide a buffer when the
tree has been heavily pruned and can no longer drink as much it could before.

Watering wise, some trees down here spring back faster after repotting than others, so one
has to be careful and water by observation.
Additionally some need more water than others and we mix up the tree /shrub types to
confuse and deter insects etc.
Mono cropping is really bad, encourages insects and diseases.
We don't need to spray for anything.

Just feed the leaf cutter ants a batch of treated citrus peels, and the queen is gone.

Now crossing over to companion planting in bonsai pots to see if we can protect the
Fukien teas and Serissa s. Ants love Fukien tea, and leaf cutters shred Serissas.
Did note a small growing piece of small of leaf seasonings stop the leaf cutting.
Since Basil protects tomatoes, basil leaf powder might as do the same ?
Let you know how it goes.

The ants do not like the metal stands, so the Fukien teas stay on those, but it would
be nicer to have them on the concrete stands on the eastern facing patio.
Good Day

So... am I correct by my reading in that you do not pull weeds, you cut them off real short?

Yes Sifu,

I cut them so the roots remain to decay. Acts like compost and also feeds the microbes.

Additionally all weeds, from the yard or Bonsai pots or anything green then gets shifted
to the compost heap. Waste nothing and weeds gather micro-nutrients.

Also does not disturb the soil.

Remember we started with Rodale's Organic farming techniques first.
There is a no till technique over from Eastern Europe.
Good Day
