was giving this tree as a gift for my 50th birthday. It was doing good up untill a few months ago
Ihad it under lights and had a few bug problems that I kelp under control . and then all of a sudden
It started to drop leafs ,turning yellow and some just turning brown and droping like files.
I made no changes to the tree since then I moved it outside and notice new growth. but the small leaves are turning brown and falling
off.
I only water when the top half feels dry. I would feel so bad if I lost THIS tree but dont know what eles
to do with it.I have another one on my mother south facing window that is doimg great with no lighting at all.
I do know that it was purchase at a local garden center. so I dont know its history, maybe a root problem but i dont want to repot it in its state.
any advice you can give please!
ps. the new growth is very pale green.

Keep it outside w/ indirect afternoon sun and only bring in when temps are near (and below) freezing. These are NOT indoor plants despite what some says.

IF it is still alive (and barring root issues & pest problems), it should bounce back fast.

Good luck!

Do you have any pics of the tree? I am in your zone and with our current temps you should be able to leave outside day and night for now.

How long have you owned the tree, what does the soil it is in look like?

I had it from last November in the house it was find but about a month or more it lost all of its leaves.
had it outside for about two weeks. but very slow to recover. the soil doesn't look that great. but drains
for the most part. dont want to transplant in it state.

Being a "tropical", now is the best time to do root work. IF the reason is weak health then you are right to hold off. BUT if the problem is the being caused by the root (rot for example) then deal with it ASAP.

Only you can tell which way to go.
