Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and wanted to share my trees. 👋
The trees are Chinese Privat, Ficus brothers and sister, Brush Cherry and Serissa Foetida(snow rose)
I have been into bonsai for over 1 year now. I got really happy seeing the flower on the Serissa yesterday! 😍

Tips, thoughts 💭 are more then welcome!

Have a great Sunday

Welcome traveler of the tiny forest! Warm your roots by the fire.

Nice trees! They look like fine companions... each confident in itself. (I’m a sucker for serissas, also....little pains-in-the-tookis.) 😁

Let us get a few introductory basics “out of the way” right away. ;)

Where is your smoke signal emanating from? You can add a location (as vague as you’d like) and climate zone to your profile. (Like I said, It can be vague... mine just says “Northeastern Wisconsin”) This allows for accuracy and correct information exchange regarding your plants/care.

Are your plants spending on living their lives indoors, outdoors or a hybrid arrangement? We will have different advice to give, depending on this.

Also.. if you wanna get crazy “up in hurr”... we can start taking soil/substrate.

Pleasure to make you acquaintance!

Thank you so much my fellow traveler!

Oehh will you please enlighten me on why the Serissas are little pains? This is my first one haha 😬
Thanks for the feedback! I fixed the missing information. 👍🏼

For most part they al have been spending their time indoors. On some mornings I let them get some morning rays but they have never spend a full day outside. 😇

Pleasure to make you acquaintance is mine as wel! 🙃

As Joe Walsh would say 🎼"Welcome to the Club" :)
Only a year in, and you take good pictures in decent setting which helps when folks respond to inquiries about specifics.
Log when you do what to your trees, not just digitally, but in a specific log book. Maybe a book for each tree.
Where you got it, when you potted/repotted it, soil composition changes, observations etc.

Hehe! you will find out quite soon that they are relatively ornery and easily stressed. Well not TOO easily stressed... they just let you know they are stressed in a very loud, timely manner. The converse being coniferous trees... SUUUUPER “passive-agressive”

It’s.....sensitive.. Serissas will:

Drop leaves when the consistency is altered to areas of it’s active photosynthesis. They have A
LOT of small leaves, feeding particular branching systems all the way down to those particular roots. In other words, they don’t enjoy changes in position. (Rotating or moving around)

Drop leaves if watered too frequently. They, however are quite thirsty individuals. so you two will develop a “dance routine” to compensate.

Drop leaves/droop SPEEDILY when too dry. :) I believe it is the contrast between these last two that lends to the “pains-in-the-butt”-type problems. As long as you know these things, there shouldn’t be any problems.

So i guess serissas aren’t really pains, per say. They just have strict and rigid guidelines by which they live (or do not live) their lives. That doesn’t sound too bad. ;)

Also, do you have an artificial lights, as well? I’d STRONGLY recommend that investment as well as considering “summering” outdoors. (If able)

p.s. your serissa is nicer than mine... mine just started out on it’s “Tiny-Tree” adventure earlier in life. So again, nice trees!

Yeah indeedI have read that they are very sensitive. The weird thing is that mine has been moved frequently and hasn't lost almost no leaves. I have her for 6 months now. That they are thirsty I noticed indeed. At first I was a little afraid that I was going to overwater her. 🤪 Hope she keeps going strong as is. 💪🏼

I am considering moving them outdoors in summer. Its just that I only have a balcony and don't yet know how to fix some afternoon shade and wind protection. 🤓
I havent thought about artificial lights but thanks for the advice! Starting to research as I'am typing the message.

Oehh im curious to your Serissa! Pictures?

P.S that's how they chill in direct sunlight sometimes and obviously that's my balcony

I’ll be starting a thread on a great deal of my specimens shortly as I haven’t done so yet.. so when I do.. it’s gonna get annoying for everyone! 😆

Here’s my little guy.. got him last year around this time as a 7 dollar seedling plug... I like him! ....I wish I had a picture of the larger one that DIDN’T make it. :(

That is truly a beautiful, authentic specimen you have over there! The wringed roots really look magical! And some heavy sprouts aswel! Nothing wrong with your young buck! 👌🏼

I am looking forward to your tread!

Big thanks for the warm welcome! 🙏
