Hey everyone. I have my trees on the ground under the bench covered in snow. I have maples and elms in an unheated garage fyi.

We have forecasted temps of 15 up to 20 down to 0 within the 10 day forecast. Today is 11 degrees F.

Do you think my trees are fine as they are, or do I bring them into my unheated shed?

thank u!

I don’t know why it’s posting my photo upside down…

I just added some more snow around them all and up to the trunks some. The previous photo was actually taken a few weeks ago. Here is the updated.

And thank you, I should have mulched

The reason people are saying mound up the snow is that snow acts as an excellent insulator

It's not unusual for my trees to see nighttime lows approaching 0°F for at least a week in winter, and all I do is set them on the ground against the northeast wall of the house. I've never seen losses due to cold.

If the snow is powdery enough I’d cover the trees entirely if possible. Snow is your friend. I’m the temp is underneath will remain substantial above air temp.

Of course adding snow over the tops might damage if the snow is chunky and hard frozen. Up to you to decide if you can do it

Bury the trees in snow if you can. Entirely. They aren't photosynthesizing and don't need any light. Think of trees in the mountains buried under 20' of snow. It can be -20F outside and they are sitting at 25F because of radiant heat from the earth.
