Nebari development in Siam

Chris,

You have truly lost your mind.

So you're not a student of Boon after all?

Over 50% of all editors on AoB and KoB have been there for years, most that go leave because they contribute nothing, not unlike yourself. But the fact is they still are successful, thank you.

I challenged you Chris, this makes the third time, you backed out of the first, you ignored the second, and now this third goes unanswered, typical. If you doubt my ability, take the challenge Chris, don't run away for the third time. We can do it right here at Bnut and have a few professional artists judge or take it to the AoB Awards where professionals will score the entries, your creations against mine, what are you afraid of, that a mere "writer" "teacher" and "critic" may just also be able to create bonsai as well? Well, now, that would pretty much invaludate every word you have ever said about me, wouldn't it? Not that they carry any weight with those in the know anyhow....

Maybe you should read this http://artofbonsai.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2754 and put your words to good use for a change.

Here is the last quote from the article, I post it because it pertains to your envy:

"Envy is a religion for mediocre people. It’s comforting, it responds to matters that are sprayed inside, and it also rots the soul, it allows a justification for all of the indifference, and cheapness; to the point of belief that those are virtues and that the doors to heaven will only open to unhappy people like them. They go through life without leaving a mark no more than excluding others and making others feel less, and possibly destroy those who, by its very existence and be who they are, show their poverty of spirit, mind and surrounding. Blessed is the man for which bark the cretins, because his soul will never belong to them." - Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Good ol' willie boy. Liars is liars. I'd like to know what the first challenge was, I think I know but I'd like to see you flesh it out.

If the second was your last beating here, it wasn't worth responding to.

So what do you wanna do now, bully boy?

The dark side is also obvious. Those using Bonsai as an object that will provide status and those who pursue quick recognition, glory, and honor embrace the dark side. As in the movie, the dark side is very attractive and there is a strong temptation to fall into it, as it feeds on the exploitation of base human nature: jealousy, greed, arrogance, and desire for immediate gratification. It is easy to be seduced by it, especially when buying a few mature trees and taking a few short classes with the right teacher can make one look like an instant “authority” in bonsai.

And you don't even see yourself in this quote?

Actually... 'buy mature trees (get them styled by professionals) ... instant "authority" in bonsai' would describe Harry not Will.

Anyways I see the Will derangement syndrome is still so pervasive on American bonsai forums. Is he still blamed for the users leaving BonsaiTalk? Including the ones who joined years after he was banned?

Oh well, that was me forgetting the idea of not getting dragged in inter-forum drama... I guess I'll stop by in a year to check if there has been any change, not that I really expect it.

You are indeed disturbed. I respond to your senseless babbling and now I am a bully for defending myself? I bet you're the kid who who would pick a fight in school and then run to the teacher, lmao.

Chris, the first time you backed away was at IBC when you said you'd enter the AoB contest if I did, I took you up on it and you backed down quicker than hooker spotting a cop car.

Chris, you not only are a liar, but you're a coward as well. You have contributed nothing to the community and you have absolutely nothing to show after 10 years in bonsai. You are fooling nobody but yourself, so keep throwing stones in the glass house you built, your contributions are worthless, you are no further along in bonsai than I am with half the time and none of the instruction, face it Chris, your opinion is as worthless as a Jack Pine Bonsai Kit.

You're so fixated on me that you launched your own forum in which at least 30% is dedicated to me, your own blog has sections about me, you follow me around like a school girl with a crush, and this very thread proves once again that you waste no time jumping in to any discussion I am in with the solitary goal of flinging mud.

You are like a deranged fan and your obsession with me is rather sick and unhealthy. Seek professional help Chris before you get into trouble with someone for cyber-bullying, cyber-stalking, or worse.

Meushi was right about the "Will derangement syndrome" but what he missed is that you're one who has had this mental illness since the beginning.

Contribute something constructive for a change, or continue being the disturbed stalker that you have been, either way, find another obsession, or maybe try bonsai?

By the way....I don't buy trees, never have, I buy stock, remember the great nursery stock debates? Nice try through, but people know better. You, on the other hand buy paint by number pre-bonsai, like the black pine you had to "lay away" what ever happened to that tree anyhow? Did you kill it already?

I thought "The Will Heath Show" was canceled. If I would have known that more episodes were being created, I would never have started posting again.

I have created a youtube account called "dramatic bonsai" and I will document all this crap from ANYBODY who continues to fight on this forum. It will be available in perpetuity, and can be downloaded by anybody who wants it on their computer for free.

here is the URL for the first video.

There you go making it all personal again.

I sold said tree. It's the only completed tree I ever bought. Nice to know you've been following me around.

Personal? Yeah, tit for tat, fire with fire, and all that.

As I, unlike you, actually have some productive things to do, I'll save some time and just post this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvUGwh1Xf_s

I think that link will make a great stock response to about 99% of what you say.

Ok guys this is it. Chris and Will if you want to argue take it to personal messages. Any additional back and forth with be deleted. I won't close this thread because it has good content but no more thread hijacking with personal arguments.

I think what we have seen so far is opposite ends of the nebari spectrum, or I should say one extreme end of it. The other end would be the lack of nebari. Since there is at least one style of bonsai where a total lack of nebari is acceptable (literati) is there a style where an extreme over abundance of nebari would also be acceptable, or are these super nebari bonsai creating a new style, similar to the "Sumo" trunked bonsai of late?

Will

I think its on a case by case basis, does it work artistically. Does the rest of the tree have enough presence so that the huge nebari is consistent with the design and doesn't look out of place. This too is subjective and depends very heavily on the individual. There are no absolutes. I have seen sumo that work and some that don't.

Ian,

I agree on all points except the subjective part, personal taste or preference may well be subjective, but the basic concepts of design really are not. Balance, line, form, use of negative space, texture, agreeing views, and other aspects of design are really not subjective. For example, a image that is out of balance is simply out of balance, no matter if a few solitary people like unbalanced images, this subjectivity changes nothing.

I do not particularly care for most abstract art, many would use this as an example that art is subjective, but I see the value and appeal of abstract art and I understand that it is a valid, widely accepted method of expression. Just because I don't personally care for it, doesn't invalidate it as an art form, to think otherwise is incredibly vain.

Comparing this to the topic at hand, super-nebari can be visually successful if the rest of the image presented supports it and it does not distract from the whole. The same can be said for abstract art, the fact that I, or anyone else, does not like it personally is subjective, but means nothing at all and this subjectivity does not carry over to the art itself.

Just throwing out thoughts, hoping to solidify my beliefs.....
