I believe this is a hawthorn native to the southeastern United states but not sure what species.

Hawthorn hybridizes like mad in the wild. I count 15 species on this list.

Could be any one of them, or a mix of them...What matters most, if you plan on collecting it, is the bottom third of the trunk...

Post a shot of some branches too; trunk if you can. It doesn’t look like hawthorn.

Here's a leaf that's came from a similar seedling with the same crabapple like leaf I posted early I was doing research but there's only a few Hawthorn species with images of there leads but it doesn't compare to any of them

Could be a Mayhaw, but again, could be any number of things. Really doesn't make that much difference.

I would but it's only a 1-3 year old seedlings
Even that would be good. The new shoots on hawthorn have red ends and the shoot color goes from green to purple to grey as they harden off. It will be easy to differentiate between the two with a pic. To me with the crenolated edges it looks more like a crabapple. Toringo / sieboldii is the only crabapple I know of that looks anything like the last pic.

Couldn't get a good image of the new shoots but they are green
