New Spruce

Thanks guys. It has a LOT of backbudding since all I did last year was baby it (and the other two I bought), fertilize, and plan. I'm sure it will look good eventually once I have a chance to chase the foliage back toward the trunk and reduce the length of some of those upper branches.

Sadly, my favorite of the three I bought died at the end of the summer. It was an awesome little cascade which I thought was the healthiest of them, had the most backbudding, and them BAM, gone... The other is tall like this one but has better bark and slightly less movement. It will actually be even more of a challenge considering the branching on that one is thicker and the tree is much older. Should be fun though.

Glad of the futuresight present here....

That is dope.

No work done to the fallen soldier. I do all my work on the species in late fall/winter, and I was spending the summer letting it gain strength. The saddest part was it was COVERED in new buds, then it just gave up...

It is a sad thing to lose something with a lot of potential. Sometimes things will put on a lot of buds and stuff right they die.

it's about 30" tall, but is an engelmann spruce. The needles aren't quite as small as Ezo, but they're comparable.
