The first month of spring is almost over and the trident maple that I am growing in the ground has decided to forgive me.
I’m really going to enjoy watching it grow this season now that I know what to expect. I expect my sweetheart wife will be understanding and not mention how much it looks out of place in her native front garden when it really gets going.
The air layer, from this trident, with the pathetic little roots is looking happy to be independent.
The two air layers that didn’t grow roots have started to produce leaves. I know that leaves don’t necessarily mean roots but I’m still really happy about that.
They only receive early morning and indirect sun. I’ll keep them in their makeshift greenhouses for as long as possible.
I guess I’ll intuitively know when it’s okay to set them out on the bench in the blazing sun.
