Anything special about that clay? I've been taking local clay and mixing in charcoal dust to make it organically useful.

The clay at the beginning of the video that anchors down the stones are 100% pottery clay. The cheapest stuff I could find. It's more stable than the muck that we later use to build the walls.It works well to keep things anchored into place until the roots grow in.

For muck, I add in amendments such as peat, NZ Sphagnum moss, akadama dust, etc. You can find my recipe here: http://artofsaikei.com/misc/Saikei-091017-web.pdf
